The value attached to a meal plan, of course, depends on whether you intend to eat all of your meals on-site, or not. The breakfast buffet, if purchased without a plan, is something on the order of $25 pp, plus tax & tip. The buffet is rather a better deal than the a la carte purchase of individual breakfast items, but you might prefer some of those and pay accordingly. If you have no desire to hit other restaurants on the island (we did not), then a modified American plan can be worthwhile if you expect to eat full, multi-course dinners. I can tell you that we got a little bored by the restaurant choices as our week wore on. We had our two teenaged children with us, so the meal plan gave us a better sense of our food costs.

If I remember correctly-- we visited in 2003-- we did a full American Plan (3 meals a day-- we wanted to control lunch costs as well!), which cost about $120 per person, per day (I think). If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't do the plan including lunch (it was worth it for my teenage children, not so much for my wife and me). I personally like having at least a breakfast plan. A dinner plan can control your costs, at the expense of tying you to the resort each night.

There are lots of restaurants in Nevis you can enjoy if you don't take the meal plan.
Miss June's, Coconut Grove, Sunshine's Beach Bar & Grill, Bananas, Montpelier, Gallipot and breakfast at Le Cafe des Arts.
I recommend eating off the property so you can enjoy the island more.
