is aruba really romantic?
is aruba really a good place for a honeymoon in september, especially if we want a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere? it seems to be glitzy, full of american fast food chains, and mega resorts. besides the beach, weather and water, is there really anything to recommend aruba over other destinations this time of year? thanks.

John, <BR> <BR>Aruba is a great place for your honeymoon! I'm not sure what you are looking for, but it doesn't matter what desnination you choose. What matters is what is best for you & your lovely bride. Here are some websites for the both of ya to checkout. My wife & I have gone to Aruba for a lot of years now & we still go back now & then. We spent our 25th anniversary their & stayed at Tierra Del Sol, a very romantic & secluded setting, or the Hyatt, Playa Linda & Sonest Suties, their are sunset cruises, sunset dinning, golfing, shopping, touring the island for some great sightseeing & meeting these fabulous people & the island itself is very safe. Their is plenty to do or their is nothing to do. Restaurants in Aruba are not chains, you should know to stay away from chains in any city. I have some great recommendations. I don't think Aruba is especially romantic, but September is hurricane season, and Aruba is less likely to be affected by hurricanes than most other islands. <BR>You might want to look at other islands that are fairly far south - e.g. Grenada, Barbados (west coast), or the smaller islands in the Grenadines like Bequia or Palm Island. <BR>Yes, Aruba has lots of high rises and fast-food places, but it didn't really feel crowded to me. It's a very dry island but there is nice landscaping around the hotels. <BR>If you do decide on Aruba and you want a smaller, quieter hotel, check out the Bucuti - fantastic beach and removed from the high-rises. <BR> <BR>

Hi John: A walk along the beach at 6:00 am or 11:00pm, dinner at Chez Mathlide, stopping along the ocean and popping the cork on a bottle of wine and sipping out of plastic wine glasses, swimming in the ocean without seeing another person except your partner, seems pretty romantic to me. Romance is a state of mind not a location. Aruba in September is a good bet weather wise, the romance though is up to you!! Have a great honeymoon. Karen

When I think of romantic places, Aruba does not come to mind. I think of lowrise, troprical, small, intimate hideaways. I didn't find that on Aruba. I found it very cosmospolitian with lots of American influence, many high rise hotels and the mecca of the timeshare set, casinos and LasVegas type shows! But, you can make your romance anywhere you go! I still laugh at the experiences and stories - not being able to shower when the sprinkler system at the hotel was running 'cause the water pressure wasn't high enuf, using a bathroom down the hall when our bathroom broke *no, we didn't want to move if they could fix it and they did and ducking under the makeshift sand shields but still getting covered with biting blowing sand! True Aruba has less chance of being hit by a hurricane but no place is a 100% guarantee unless you are south of 6 degrees latitude so be sure to get trip insurance! I would definately check out the Grenadines (they too are less likely to be 'cane affected) for some of the lovely pristine islands and resorts there!

I just had to throw in my input, because my husband and I went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon in December and I thought it was very romantic. It's down south and is extremely tropical and very "caribbean" (not very much American influenced at all) -- especially if you stay in one of the more secluded resorts like Anse Chastnet or Ladera -- or even the Hilton probaby for that matter b/c it's in the South part of the island too, which I found to be more "rustic" than the North part of the island. We loved St. Lucia!

My husband and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon in September. I would definatly recomment it. We are going back again in December. It was just what we needed to relax from all the stress. It took us a couple of days to get into the slower motion of the island. The weather was perfect and the water beautiful. We did some sightseeing but this time just plan on hanging out on the beach. Many people we talked to have been there several times. We are looking into a timeshare.

My husband and i honeymooned their in late aug of last yr, and fell in love...it is the most romantic setting for a honeymoon...yes, hurricanes are a possibility, but invest in some travel insurance and go somewhere special. Look into staying at Gallows point for a very private "condo" atmosphere-or for more of a resort feel Caneel Bay. St. John is 2/3 national park, with no high rise hotels, fast food chains ect. Just pristine beauty. Have a great wedding and good luck with a destination. <BR>Mel
