Ideas while on the Cruise

My husband and I are taking a 4 day cruise in January, one day Freeport, two days in Nassau. Any suggestions of what we need to do and see during our short time. We def. want to do some snorkling.

The Bahamas are not all that warm in January.. You might not want to snorkel at that time of the year. The last time I was there in Jan., it was too chilly to even sit out on the beach. We did manage to sit by the pool though.

In the Bahamas, there is the Ardasta Zoo and Gardens, Atlantis to view the Aquarium and Digs, Straw Market for tourist shopping. I'm sure your cruise line has some type of Island tour you can take. Stuart Cove for water activities. We did a catamaran tour on the Flying Cloud for snorkling and drop at a beach for an hour.

I agree that January may be too cool for water activities. We went the first week of Sept. 2003 and the weather was perfect.

Hello Earnme3! You really should try to get to Virgin Gorda or St. John if you really want to snorkle. You will be guaranteed warm weather there. If you possibly can you should try to go there.

Oh no, I was thinking that it would be warm there in January.
So if we are walking around seeing things, could we wear shorts or is long pants needed?

The weather at that time of year is "iffy". It is similar to the weather in South Florida. It can be nice and warm or it can be chilly. When I say chilly, I mean in the 60's or low 70 degrees F.

It's always hard to predict weather especially for a specific 3 or 4 day period. Yes, the Bahamas can be cooll or even cold in January. Go to www.weatherbase.com for charts showing average temperatures throughout the year. If you are planning to swim consider bringing "snorkel suits" to keep you warm. They are available from dive shops or on-line and cost anywhere between $60 and $75.
