Ideas for Paradise Island trip??
We're off soon to Nassau, Paradise Island. Will be staying at the Comfort Suites across from Atlantis, which means we get to use Atlantis amenities. We'll be there for about 4 days and I'd love any recommendations/warnings about places to go/avoid to eat and play. We love to snorkel and do a little exploring. Any tours/ferries/etc worth checking out/avoiding?? (Espec where to eat!)
Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - you can also email me at [email protected]. ciao

For snorkeling trips The Flying Cloud was a fun sail boat ride, and it anchored at a nice reef with tons of fish. The boat is a 57 foot long catamaran.
This time of year it is apt to be windy in the Bahamas, which makes the ocean very choppy. And I'm afraid the water may also be quite cool. It's a bit pricey, but there is an island called Blue Lagoon where there is water to snorkel in that is somewhat sheltered from the wind. I don't know the names of the tour operators that make trips over there, but I'm sure the hotel will have tons of brochures to check out.
The dock where you can catch the boats for basically everything is just a block from Comfort Suites. On the opposite side of the street from the dock is a shopping center where you will find some restaurants. I've never eaten in any of them, but I'm sure you can find something satisfactory there. There may also be a grocery store in that area (it was there in 1999, the last time we were on Paradise Island).
At the dock you can also catch the water taxi that goes over to Nassau. There are plenty of restaurants in Nassau, both sit down and fast food. Make sure you know when the last water taxi returns to Paradise Island, it used to be 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Of course you can also take a regular taxi cab. If you don't mind a rather long walk, you might like to walk across the bridge over to Nassau.
Hope this helps, and I hope things haven't changed much since 1999. Have a wonderful vacation.

I can't comment on snorkeling and stuff since we stayed on property there and didn't move too much for four days!LOL We ate alot though. We had a large group of us and we had 4 days so we just hung around and enjoyed the pools and beach. I can recommend our best meal was at the Bahamian Club restaurant. (steaks) We liked the italian restaurant Ville De Este also. The breakfast place the Marketplace had a huge breakfast buffet. I also recommend by one of the pools they had a family meal of 4 burgers, fries and drinks for 22 dollars. You could even eat that one night. Have fun!

Hi - We stayed at the Ocean Club for 9 years in a row and our favorite dinner trek was to walk across the P.I. bridge, turn left, and have dinner at the Poop Deck. I assume it is still there. It's a little bit touristy but nevertheless has great local dishes, a fun atmosphere, and wonderful service. You eat on the deck right on the water. It was especially fun to do this around sunset. Of course you can take a taxi, but the walk was only about 25 minutes and it did wonders for our legs and our appetites. Also, there were almost always taxis waiting in the parking lot to take us back to the resort afterwards.

We were on PI a few years ago and found great snorkeling right off the beach. We stayed at the Marriott Vacation Club hotel - at the opposite end of the island from Atlantis (but still not far). I think it's the last resort before what appeared to be a very ritzy and expensive golf resort.
Anyway, there was a public parking lot right beside the hotel. If you walk straight out to the beach and turn right, there is some great snorkeling less than 50 yards down. It's right in front of the golf course (watch out for stray balls). We saw several eagle rays every day, a ton of fish, and an octopus.
