My family will be traveling to St. Thomas the middle of June. Do you know anything about the Petersborg area? We are staying at a villa in that area called Diva Villa? Is Magen's Bay as nice as everyone says? What would be a good place to eat with three teens along? Do you know if resorts (night club)are accessible to non-guests in the evening? If so, which are the best.
Thanks,
Teresa C.

Looking for a really nice place to stay over xmas in St Thomas for about 10 days. prefer a condo or villa. Will rent a car. Want something with cooking facilities. Will have 1-2 college sons along though they may be staying with their brother some of the time. Visiting our 3rd son who has just taken a newspaper position in Charlotte A with the Indep and Avis. Karen I've read your posts and value your opinion. we've travelled the islands many times, but usually by cruise ship. Like to snorkel and have our own gear. Pool on property is a necessity, small property preferred not tons of people (sure, right, at Xmas!) Do plan on taking the redhook ferry over to st J a time or 2. Would like to stay in the 200-250 range if we can.

Great! Someone who can help! My family & I will be on holiday at the Sapphire Beach Resort Hotel in June. We'd like to use one of the groups going out to the BVI for some great snorkling. Could you make a suggestion on the best as far as quality and family budget. Any tips on fun/good restaurants, easy ways to get around, and adventurous things to see - we love snorkling - we're not 'sit at the pool type'! Thanks so MUCH!

Sapphire is conveniently located near Red Hook where you will find Marina Market which can be one of the first stops to pick up all the snacks, soda, water and things you might want/need. It also is home to Duffy's which the kids might enjoy. You also might want to stop in Color of Joy (American Yacht Harbour, Red Hook) and pick up a Rotary Club book of dining out 2-fer's for $15. Just one dinner with the coupon will probably pay for the book ... after that, everything is a bonus! Sapphire Marina is home to New Horizons and they offer both snorkling sails of St. John and power boat to the Baths with a second stop on the way home. There are other vendors however ... you might want to check st-thomas.com/week/ for a copy of the yellow book and info about what to see/do on Ss. Thomas and John. Would recommend renting a car as taxis do charge per person and that can add up pretty quickly with children! You can then "do" the island at your leisure, stop at Udder Delight for a great shake, and see some magnificant vistas as you tour the island. We chose to use Discount Car Rental as they will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival (you call) and drop you off for your departure and do allow the car to be taken to St. John on the ferry. Sapphire's Beach is one of the prettiest on STT with some good snorkling off the "Point" but you, for a change, might want to snorkle at Secret Harbour and Chris Sawyer does a nite snorkle there. Some tourists "do" the Paradise Point tram ... have a Pina Colada at the top with lunch, the Coki Beach aquarium (check to see if there are any discount coupons in the smaller St. Thomas/St. John Guide Book). Check the cruise schedule if you plan to go to Trunk Bay on St. John or shopping in CA and avoid those days that the "fleet" is in! Another casual spot in Red Hook is Molly Malone's but not a favorite of mine - an "Irish-style" pub but might be okay for hamburgers, etc. Check out the Caribb Saloon too! There are plenty of dining spots but they are not necessarily inexpensive. There was a "cruise" to five restaurants from Compass Point - $5 a person and you can ride all nite, if you want. Dottie's might be an inexpensive choice at Compass Point. Or you can do the kyack tour which is right down the road from there! Hope you have a good time ... and don't think you will be "pool" people long ... that water is just too wonderful and inviting!!!! If you need more restaurant info, as Sapphire's SeaGrape, despite children eating free, is not wonderful, do email me!

We have had lovely weather in October for the last several years but you do realize that October can be hurricane watch time? The cruise ships change the itinerary to avoid the blow so you have less to worry than one staying on island. If you read the previous post there are loads of things to do. You might even get a little adventurous and head to some of the beaurtiful beaches and the Nat'l Park on St. John!

Thank you for volunteering to help the uneducated like myself.

My family is planning a trip to the USVI the first 2 weeks of August. As there are 7 of us (my wife, 5 kids, and myself), finding affordable accomodations can be difficult. We're looking for a condo/villa with a pool on the beach for around $1,500/week. Suggestions???

Hi Patrick
I will be in St.Thomas on June 10-18 along with 3 girlfriends. We are staying at the Bonlongo Bay hotel. Any info you can give us on the hotel and the area (cheap dining, etc.) would be very helpful. Also do you know anything
about the day trips to Puerto Rico?
Thanks in advance for you help.
Kim

Don't know what happened to Patrick ... maybe he is emailing the answers. But if you go to st-thomas.com it is a pretty good site to get lots of info on STT/STJ. For a day stay, you might want to check out the island with a tour and a drop at one of the nicer beaches (Magen's and Coki are very popular with cruise ship tours) but you might want to head to Sapphire or Secret Harbour and have lunch at Blue Moon in Secret Harbour. Plenty of taxis to take you. Understand they also use the vendor at Bolongo now too for trips! Or after the "tour" of the highlites and scenery, stop at Red Hook and catch the ferry to St. John and do a couple of the beaches there (ferrys run hourly)with a picnic lunch. Hawksnest is the closest to Cruz Bay and is very nice for snorkling. Head back, cruise thru the shopping area and then taxi back to the ship! That would definately be a full day! Or you can head to the tram to Paradise Point, shop 'til you drop (watch those prices!), am sure you will be approached by the barracuda selling time shares ... for a "free" ride to a wonderful spot!!!! Might want to consider a sail with one of the many vendors who will take you to some of the unaccessable by land beaches (Jolly Mon is one that "caters" to the cruise ships - they have a web site!). So much to do, so little time!
