How is Antigua?

I had a coworker who stayed at the Royal Antiguan about two years ago and she said she had a great time--that's all I can tell you, she was very pleased. I remember she said they took a catamaran that stopped near the hotel for snorkling and it was convenient. See Where2Stay. com for travelers reviews. Antigua has beautiful beaches and it is really geared towards those who enjoy watersports, not a lot of night entertainment. Go see those beautiful yachts--tour English Harbor. We have been there a few times and always enjoyed ourselves--only negative is the many vendors on the beach but they are friendly.

If you have been to the Caribbean before and enjoyed it, I'm sure you would like Antigua. It is not one of the islands I would go back to for more than a day or two, but it is lovely, and there is a lot to see and do.
I personally would not suggest Antigua for a first trip to the Caribbean.
If you do go, be sure to make it to the Sunday party at Shirley Heights overlooking the harbor - food, drinks and live music.
If you got a great deal, I would go for it!

Antigua was our first trip to the Caribbean and we had a great time. Of course, we were prepared to find a place very much unlike the US, so it wasn't culture shock too much! There are lots of things to do on the island, including the excellent party at Shirley Heights. Royal Antiguan is OK, but it is a high rise and is out of place on this laid-back island. See the antigua board at www.antigua.org for more opinions.

Antigua is fabulous -- a beautiful island with the nicest people. The beaches are suburb. What is bad about the Royal Antiguan is that it is basically a Holiday Inn -- so if you don't mind that and you can get a good deal, go for it. Email me for other hotels if you want.
