Hotels with good snorkeling

My husband and I are young "50 somethings". We love to snorkel and would like to be at a hotel on the beach, where we can snorkel from shore. We are not into the party scene, so would be happy with a quiet location. Any suggestions that might be reasonably priced in late October?
Thanks for any help
Kathy

I don't know about the reasonableness of the price - I have seen good package deals, but Anse Chastenet on St. Lucia has a fantastic view, a volcanic sand beach and a very good reef right off the beach. It is quiet and somewhat secluded beautiful hotel.

Sandals in Negril has free snorkeling included. They have a little boat that goes out 4 times a day to several different reefs. Sandals can be a laid back as you want it to be..

Barbados is a beautiful island but the snorkeling is not very good. The best snorkeling Ive seen near a hotel is the reef in front of Coral Garden on Grace Bay, Provo, TCI.

Based on all around value think you might enjoy Cooper Island in the BVI. www.Cooper-Island.com Also, in Mexico there are excellent values at Akumal Bay on the beach. The snorkeling ok there also. There is nothing in the form of beach snorkeling compared to what it was 40 years ago that I would call good or great much of anywhere in the world.

Secret Harbor in St. Thomas has some pretty good snorkelling from their beach. It's also quiet and has a great on site restaurant. Another advantage is easy access to St. John. Their low season rates are reasonable, beachfront rooms are definitely worth the price.
