Stayed at Southern Palms in July/Aug 2000 for 10 days. Absolutely wonderful "small, local and friendly hotel. Meaning that it is not luxurious but large rooms, extremely clean, tropical decor and gorgeous views of the sea. Very good food (get the breakfast plan 'cause you can eat a lot before you discover the island for the day. Cabs right across the street, also restaurants to walk to. Nightlife in the GAP as well. Absolutely love the people who work there. Go!

And it's very PINK! Nice, comfortable property but not fancy. Pool needed a facelift a couple of years ago, but who cares?
Please take a moment & tell about Discovery Bay. We walked up the beach & through the property one night, but couldn't see much.

Stayed at Southern Palms last April. Enjoyed the hotel - you can get a room with kitchenettes, cheaper since food costs are astrinomical!! Nice beach. Good location for the Gap, however, walking was difficult since the Gap has no sidewalks and cars zoom by. Gap area is very different than Holetown. I found Holetown cleaner, nicer, more touristy. Southern Palms is a good choice for the Gap area.

Holetown was so sedate, lots of upscale lodging there & surrounding area. The Gap was more lively, more touristy to us --- more crowds (esp. beaches), nightlife. I'm curious to know what you felt was touristy about Holetown since we have such differing views?
About the food -- not astronomical for us, but not cheap. Haven't found cheap yet decent food in the Caribbean yet, except for a couple of local hangouts in GC.
