Hopetown in November

Many people believe November is the best time of year in the Abacos. The water should still be warm, and the winter storms coming off the U.S. coast still not an issue (of course, my personal experience of last year's planned visit the first week of November was a bit different ... Hurricane Michelle, which re-routed us to another destination). Trip insurance (read the terms carefully) should take care of the hurricane risk.

Most restaurants should be re-opened by Thanksgiving. We've enjoyed the Abaco Inn, Seaspray (the Boat House), Rudy's, Harbour's Edge and Captain Jack's. I also hear that Hopetown Harbour Lodge's restaurant is excellent, but have not eaten there myself.

More info is available on the Abaco Community Message Board at www.abacoboard.com.

CG, yes, a number of restaurants close for the height of hurricane season, which is about September (the proprietors need a vacation, too!). Some of them may stay closed a bit longer than just a month, but all should be open by the beginning of November.
