Honeymoon Private Island.

Hello Everyone,

I plan to go on a honeymoon to a private island in the Caribbean. And this is what I'm looking for:

1- Luxury.
2- Seclusion (I want to feel like we are the only couple on the island, and on its beaches.)

Price range is maximum of 6000 for 7 night period (or around that price).

I have found Petit St Vincent, Peter Island, Guana Island, and Jade Mountain. Do these fit the description? If yes, which is better?

Thank you.
Moh

Have you read Scubamom's website (Google her)? She has lots of reviews of those sorts of destinations, with great photos -- a terrific resource.

Of the ones you mention, I'll note that Peter Island attracts a lot of visiting sailors -- bareboat and otherwise -- so you'll perhaps not feel as secluded as you might wish. And PSV, while lovely, has a beach that is quite coral-bound, so while nice for walking, is not great for swimming.

Whether you consider these destinations luxurious depends on your definition of "luxury" -- PSV, for example, falls more along the lines of "rustic chic."

palm island, grenadines fits your wishes but will cost more than 6000 especially if that includes airfare. actually i think all your selections push your budget.

where will you fly from & when is your honeymoon?

if you going late spring through dec you might look at http://www.capesantamaria.com/ on long island, bahamas.

what time of year? Makes a huge difference in price for your budget.

Petit St. Vincent is your best from choices for what you seek. They even have a private sand spit they can drop you off at. (Google Mopion pictures)

Peter Island does get day visitors, Deadman's Cay can get busy. But they do have a secluded hard to reach beach they can set you up on.

Palm Island also gets many day visitors.

You can add Parrot Cay to the list. While the hotel part of the island has some people (handful) there are villas scattered throughout with private stretches.

For what you seek though you may have to increase your budget, seclusion in Caribbean comes at a price.

You could also compromise, for example, go to Turks and Caicos or Anguilla, that are not really over run with tourists. While you won't be alone, you get luxury. What they offer are day trips to secluded uninhabited cays (like little Gilligan's Islands) gorgeous strands. Best of both worlds. Out Islands in Bahamas has tons of beaches all to yourself. Exumas has Sandals, which is luxury, but AI so there will be people, but includes all drinks and meals, and you can set up boats to explore and have your own island.

Keep in mind that luxury and seclusion in Caribbean means big bucks. Usually more than $1000 a night. Seclusion and rustic is probably more realistic.

Do keep in mind, EVERYWHERE in Caribbean beaches are public by law. So even if you find a private isolated strand, a boater with people can always show up. chances are though, you can find a strand that's all yours for most of the day, from time to time you might get some visitors.

Yes, I second the suggestion of looking at Scubamom's website because it's very informative and chock full of great photos.

I honeymooned at Guana Island and returned there for my 5th anniversary. It was incredible and my husband and I loved it. We could always find someplace quiet tucked away for the two of us to feel secluded, BUT unless we did the castaway picnic (I think it was an additional cost of $35), there were always other people on the main beach. My husband and I are not hikers, but there are other beaches on Guana that you can hike or kayak to and get that kind of seclusion.

Guana's luxury comes more in the form of the peace, quiet & tranquility rather than in the accommodations, which are definitely on the rustic side. That being said, it was absolutely perfect for us.
