Honeymoon help?!?
My Fiance and I are planning a honeymoon for June 11th-17th 2007 and want to go tropical! I have only had a chance to visit Grand Cayman Islands, Bahamas, and Cancun in the Caribbean, so so much more to explore! The tickets are taken care of through frequent flyer miles, so we have $3000.00 for the rest of the trip. That is including hotel, food, alcohol, and activities. Could y'all please help me find the right island for us?!? We would like (1)-Cliffs to jump off into the sea(I know really random for our #1) (2)- lush scenery (3)-waterfalls,forest and lagoons to explore (4)-Pretty much more natural beauty (5) real laid back, island atmosphere. (6) we would like to feel safe most the places we go!!! (7) good food and drinks(I am sure I can just about get this anywhere)!!
My fiance and I live by the beach on the gulf in Florida, so as much as we love the beach, we also want more that a beautiful sandy beach to sit at. I hope y'all can help me out! I am really stuck at trying to find which one is perfect for me!

Bridget,
You might want to consider St. Lucia. I think it offers a lot of what you are looking for in that it has a rainforest climate, mountains, and even a volcano (I think it would meet your criteria 2 - 4 and 7 easily). Some caveats though on my recommendation: 1) I have not been there yet (I'm going this winter), and 2) since booking my trip, I've read some posts about tourists being crime victims or subject to harassment, especially in some of the less-developed parts of the island, which seems like it would be areas of interest for you. There also are a lot of posts talking about what a beautiful country it is, and how nice the St. Lucian people are, so I think it is a personal decision every traveler needs to make. I'm not changing my travel plans, but I'm staying in the more developed part of the island and staying at an AI resort part of the time and only plan to venture into the more remote areas as part of a group trip. So, I'm not that worried about my personal safety given my plans. I think my perspective might be different, though, if I was planning to do a lot of exploring on my own in the Soufriere area.

St. Lucia is a beautiful and lush island, so it should definitely be on the list of places you consider. It's also a favorite honeymoon destination. You could look at Jamaica---and I'd particularly recommend Negril---where you can get a villa at the Rockhouse and have your own private jumping-off place into the sea. Many people have concerns about crime in Jamaica, but I actually think it's as safe for most tourists as any place, though I must warn that it's more difficult to explore on your own here. You could split your honeymoon between the lovely cliffs area in Negril and an equally lovely place on Seven Mile Beach. Port Antonio, distance (and closer to Kingston than Montego Bay) is in a less-traveled part of Jamaica that is pretty safe and beautiful.

Thanks everyone for your input! I have been doing tons of research on St. Lucia, sounds perfect, minus the cliffs. However, I think that their are a few waterfalls that I can jump or rapell down! Also, The Rockhouse in Negril looked great! I think we are going to go to St. Lucia though!
