Honeymoon Bitter End?

I am getting married in June, 2002 and we are considering BEYC for a honeymoon spot. Any feedback? I don't sail or dive, but my husband-to-be has done some sailing and windsurfing in the past. We would be interested in the snorkling trips. I am looking for some R&R with a good book and a beverage or two, I would also like a nice pool and a white sandy beach. I am hoping that the rooms are nicely done. Also worried about the food quality at BEYC based on past reviews. Any feedback appreciated Thanks!

Virgin Gorda is amazing. For a honeymoon I would recommend Biras Creek. It is much more intimate (mostly all couples). It is smaller than Bitter End (about 50 rooms). You will have use of small sailboats (Cats & single hull) as well as motorized boston whalers. If you wanted to rent something bigger the BEYC is a 10 minute walk along a trail. When I stayed at Biras we walked over to Bitter End just to see what it was like. It is a lot more built up, but that is in BVI standards. Compared to other areas of the Carribean it is small. The crowd at BEYC is not as intimate (more family's and groups).

The service and food are excellant at Biras. The only resort in the BVI's that might beat Biras is Peter Island. But Peter Island doesn't have access to the larger sail boats that you could get at BEYC if you stay at Biras.

Go! You will love BEYC. The hillside rooms have total privacy and the best view in the world. Pool is small but not crowded. Last time we went there(June 2000), the times we spent at the pool, we had it to ourselves. The food...I read the negative posts also, but if it's the same as in 2000, you won't go hungry. Take a sailing course there and then sail with the Groom by yourselves...romantic enough? The beach there is ok, but you can take a Boston Whaler to numerous very private beaches all around North Sound. Snorkling trips (2 short ones per day and 1 long one per day) are fantastic. One other thing, I'm heading back to beyc in June with 19 family members. I only wish I had spent my honeymoon there 21 years ago. Bottom line, this place is great for families and couples and big enough and with enough activities that you won't feel crowded (Lowest prices in June also).

BEYC is very good. We've been there and enjoyed it. There are two resorts on Virgin Gorda, though, that we consider better: Biras Creek and Olde Yard Inn.
Why not BEYC? Bitter End, like all the better resorts, charges a substantial price. Bearing in mind that they are 50% marina and 50% resort, we felt that more of our money was going into a marina that we had no particular interest in supporting inasmuch as we aren't avid sailors. More tangibly, there is not much of a beach. As far as waterfront goes, BE is mostly wharf and piers. That didn't do us any good.
And the food? Biras' food (a moderate walk from BE) is MUCH better in a stunning setting. The dining area at BE is very reminiscent of Applebee's or Ruby Tuesdays.
All said, did we enjoy it? Very much. Nice people. But was it a very special experience. No. Let's face it. It's a marina with rooms. If you are big on sailing, then it's worth it. If not, why compromise.
Regarding Olde Yard which I mentioned earlier. This very charming resort is small and intimate. It is an ideal honeymoon location for the couple who wants to trade the "resort" impersonal environment for charm, intimacy, friendliness, and a killer beach. Lovely, lovely place, and, yes, it will create the life-long memories you may crave.

BEYC is busy and commercial and a great spot for activity. The last time (and I mean last) we sailed in there we were greated by a hugh tv monitor blaring out CNN. The beach area is very small. It's great for sailors and boating but not what I would want for a romantic interlude for a honeymoon. Biras, Peter Island, Guana, Little Dix are better choices especially since BEYC is not known for good eats! Good yachtie party spot tho!

We went to Peter Island for our honeymoon in June 2001, it was absolutely a dream. The accomodations were wonderful, food amazing, included use of beautiful beaches, wind-sailing, snorkeling, and a beach called Honeymoon beach which is only meant for two! Check it out www.peterisland.com, well worth the cost!!!
