Yasawa Island Resort - Honeymoon

I wanted to get some information on Yasawa Island Resort - I am hoping to book my honeymoon there for the first week of May. Are the bures wonderful and how about the beach? We just want to relax on the beach for 5 days and eat good food. I was also looking into Jean Michel Cousteau resort but I think it might be too many kids for a honeymoon. If anyone has any info. it would be a big help.
Also after our stay at Yasaswa we were thinking of heading back to Nadi and staying at the Sheraton for a few days and go to Suvu. We are from the U.S. so we may never get back to Fiji and I thought it would be good to experience the culture a little bit. Any thoughts?

It's been a few years since we stayed at the Yasawa Reosrt but I still have very fond memories of my time there. The island is quite remote which just adds to the charm. We found the resort just wonderful. The bures are very comfortable and spacious, only steps from the beach. It's a very tranquil intimate setting and affords lots of privacy and relaxation if desired as well as offering plenty of water activities, etc. for the more active individuals.

We found the cuisine to be very good and the staff are friendly, gracious people as were all the islanders. For the early riser nothing is more wonderful than taking a lovely stroll along a most secluded beach after sun rise. In the evenings before dinner, guests who wish to, gather in the lounge area for drinks and canapes and general chit chat about the days events.

I don't think you will be disappointed if you choose to stay there. I've travelled throughout parts of the south pacific a number of times and this spot is definitely worth a return visit IMO. We also spent some time in Nadi at the Sheraton after the Yasawa and of course this is much more like any large resort but it was fine for a few days.

Have a fabulous honeymoon wherever you decide to go. Bula

Go to Yasawa - you will love it!! The Sheraton is just a big resort with a mediocre beach-nothing special. Suva is interesting, but really only for a day so maybe plan on a 1/2 day getting there, stay overnight and then back the next afternoon.

We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary two years ago at Yasawa. It is really beautiful and I'd highly recommend it. Book the deluxe bures for extra privacy, they have the most marvellous private outdoor showers. The beach is good both for swimming (in certain spots) or snorkelling. Don't stay at the Sheraton to experience the local culture - just do some of the excursions that the resort organizes. Much less touristy since it's a much more remote island.

I think there is a Fijian buffet dinner and concert on Friday nights at the resort rather than the regular restaurant meal. You can also choose to have a private table for two poolside for dinner - just ask ahead of time. The meals are excellent and there is a very good wine list. The cocktails at the bar are delicious as are the bar nibbles provided during the "happy hour". And if you're feeling a bit stressed out after all the wedding stuff have a bowl of kava before you retire for the night!

Do go on a private beach picnic one day, they are so romantic. They take you by boat and set you up with beach mats, deck chairs, sun umbrella, towels, water and a scrumptious lunch (you have to buy your wines tho) on your very own beach for the day. Tip - if you're happy sitting for hours on a beach by yourselves then ask for a later pickup than the standard time if possible. We wished we had done - the four hours or so we were at our beach just flew by!

You'll probably have to stop over one night in Nadi arriving and/or departing as the seaplane to Yasawa flies out early afternoon and only does one trip a day. Stay at the Sheraton Royal Denarau rather than the Sheraton Fiji Resort. They are all part of the one big complex but the Royal Denarau has more of a traditional Fijian decor and, although older, is much nicer in my opinion.

Hope your wedding is as beautiful as you dream it will be, and have a wonderful honeymoon.

It's been about 5 years since my husband (then boyfriend) and I were at Yasawa. We have nothing but fond memories of the resort and we wish to return soon! It is romantic, relaxing and the extent of socializing is purely up to the individual.
The bures are quite spacious and their furnishings are simple yet elegant. The staff is absolutely superb - the level of service is excellent and discreet at all times.
The food is some of the freshest and was the best seafood I have ever had - literally the catch of the day. Each meal was a delight.
We stayed in Nadi (can't recall the exact hotel) for a couple of days and did a tour before flying home. In all honesty, I wouldn't stay much longer than that. We did a tour of the countryside and it was very interesting but we were spoiled by Yasawa.
Happy honeymoon!
