Help wanted!! Nassau or Grand Cayman?
Hi all, I value all that I read on this board and thought I would post this question re: family vacation choice.
Family = myself, husband and 2 teenagers
Should we go to Nassau (would stay @Comfort Suites and have access to Atlantis), or should we rent a condo at Grand Cayman? G. Cayman seems to have much better choices for dining~~we always make dinner and good restaurants a big part of our vacations.
This may be last vacation we take for awhile since college is on the horizon. Want to make it fun! Sons are active and like to be busy while on vacation. Is the Atlantis better for younger kids? Sons are still into water slides, pools, etc. We will definitely introduce them to snorkeling --they have never been to Carribbean, or snorkeled anywhere.
Any opinions out there would be appreciated!

Jennine,

I have been to both Caymans and Nassau and honestly enjoyed Nassau more. Grand Cayman is beautiful but I felt that there really wasn't a lot to do. Granted, I went with my fiance and we are in our late 20's so the needs may be a bit different. However, I felt like the activity options were far greater in Nassau - the town is bigger, Atlantis boasts innumerable activities and if you have access to the watersports there Great! Both places have scuba diving (and although Caymans is supposed to be better, we saw so much more in our Nassau dive). There are great restaurants at Atlantis and some less expensive ones in town (a short cab ride away). In Cayman, everything seemed a lot farther away - we went to a great restaurant but it was pretty far from where we stayed (Treasure Island resort on 7 mile beach). Even though we were there for only 5 days, I was a bit bored since I usually like to keep busy.....Good luck and I'm sure you will have a great time in either place!

If this is sort of a last Family vacation before the kids leave for college you want it to be one they will remember always, and I would suggest the Atlantis as your best choice. There are lots of things to see and do and the resort is so big you will all have activities to interest everyone and have the option of doing nothing but relaxing or reading or sunbathing.
I don't mean to sound like an advertizement, lol, but the Atlantis will have just about everything you would want in a vacation.

Try the Atlantis website for more info. Also Atlantis is offering some discounts right now, so look around before you book. Liberty Travel was advertising some great prices for Atlantis recently www.libertytravel.com or www.suninternational.com

Have a great time.

I would recommend Grand Cayman over the Bahamas. We just returned from Nassau and Paradise Island. Paradise Island was fine, but Nassau was very dirty and the locals were very aggressive and envious. We will be going back to Grand Cayman this Autumn. The island is cleaner, and the locals are friendly and civilized.
