HELP !! GWV tours and the Windjammer

We're off to the Windjammer in May on a GWV Tour. Never traveled with a charter before, any good or bad experiences with them? Delays or bad service? We are having second thoughts about the Windjammer after reading the posts. This will probably be our only visit to the islands and want to make it special. Is it true about the slimy beach? Problem with drugs on the beach? Is Castries safe from muggings? H E L P!!!

We leave for the St. Lucia Windjammer in April. I am also concerned about some of the postings. I will let you know when we get back what we find. We travelled with Key Tours and Apple Vacations before and they were very good. We are going to St. Lucia with Travel Charter. I have not heard either way on a GWV Tour.

We have used GWV to charter to St Barts several times. They are a good outfit. As an example, this past year we had a snowstorm in the Northeast on a Thurs. We were due to leave early Sat Morning from Boston. They called Fri to say we would be late leaving because the plane couldn't get to Boston. We were to make a connection in St Martin. They changed our reservation to St Barts and facilitated the connection. Unfortunately the plane left an hour later than expected and we missed our flight (the last of the day). They rebooked us for the next morning and put us up in a resort hotel in St Martin. At each step they had agents to assist. We felt well treated.
We plan to use them again.

Have been flying charter with GWV for more years than I care to think about--at least 15---usually second week in February at to warm winter destinations.. .If there is a problem it is usually with the chartered plane..(Sun Country our last plane this February 7th worst ever). Sign-ins at Logan very efficiently handled by their staff.. Just remember you are going charter and "things" happen. Two friends flew at same time, one on another charter from TNT from Boston and delayed several hours...another friend flew A.A.A. and ran into almost 7 hours delay. So, my advice, stay loose and have a great vacation...

I just got back from a stay at Windjammer Landing with my wife and two daughters (ages 2 and 4). I was also concerned about both st. Lucia and the windjammer after reading some of the postings. I'm not sure what prompted these negative postings. We found the Island to be very nice, and Windjammer Landing to be a fine place, especially for families.

I suppose it's possible to have a miserable time anywhere, but I think you'd really have to work at it to not enjoy yourself in St. Lucia. It's true that on certain beaches, the local vendors are a little pushy, but most of the time we had no problems.

Don't know anything about GWV tours, we were booked through Apple and used American Airlines/American Eagle to get there.

We had no problems.

In fact we found the staff at Windjammer to be very friendly at extremely responsive to even small requests. We asked for a blender (so we could mix up some drinks) and they dropped off a brand new blender within 15 minutes.

I say don't sweat it, and plan to have a great time. No matter what, definitely try to get down to the southern part of the Island. We did the catamaran both down and back and had a ball.

Also, we rented a car and drove up to pigeon Island which as great.

One last thing, find out which airport your flying into. We flew into Vigie field which is a 10-15 minute drive to Windjammer. If you fly into the southern airport it's an hour and a half drive from the airport to the resort.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Tom
