help decide bahamas or TCI

Help
I am taking my 18 year old daughter for a quick trip in January - want someplace warm and somewhat exotic - safe-with some amount of nightlife for her, but not a "singles". Appreciate any ideas

Don't know that the Bahamas or TCI offer "exotic" (I wouldn't call anything in the TCI "exotic" nor is there much nitelife) but since it's January you are traveling, depening on the degree of warm you want, you might be more satisfited further south in the Carib. If it's daytime warm and cooler evenings (depending on the temps that can flucuate more than the Carib islands), the Atlantic islands might sastify.

Aruba "exotic?" I don't think so ... but then maybe we need a definition of what the poster is looking for. When I think of "exotic," I think lush, green tropical "forests," little lonely coves and beaches without hoards fighting for the beach shades at 7 am and certainly not highrise hotels shoulder to shoulder with elevators to the beach and quint little out-of-way places and hide-a-ways! So, each has their own preferences and definitions!

Susan, I think Puerto Rico might be a good answer. The island has a delightful Spanish flavor -- which some folks might consider exotic, it they aren't Hispanic or Latino -- with great places to eat, great beaches, nightlife (great clubs in Old San Juan, discos at many of the big hotels), and a beautiful island to sightsee: El Yunque Rain Forest, Camuy caves, phosphorescent bay.
I used to live there, loved it and miss it.
There is another thread about driving in Puerto Rico, and at least one about small inns, restaurants, and, I think, one about beaches.
Hope this helps.
And before anyone flames me for my comment about Puerto Rico being exotic, I meant no disrespect. I mean only that the essence of the place is different from certainly my home town, and probably Susan's. That's all.

Inspite of what KarenW says Aruba is very exotic and NO not all hotels are high rise nor do you have to use elevators in all hotels. Karen just doesn't like Aruba and gets upset if anyone suggests it. The beaches, choices for dining, tours, nightlife, casinos all make Aruba an excellent travel location. Plus it is a very safe island.
