Help choose villa St. John
I need some advice. We have narrowed it down to choosing one of a few villas in St John. Does anyone know anything about any of these? The good and bad. We will be in St John for 10-12 days in January 2009. HELP
Captain's Cabin - Johns Folly area near Salt Pond.
Two Bay Views - The Two bays being Great Cruz and Chocolate Hole.
New Moon or Just Enough - both near Coral Bay.
Bambooshay Villa (formerly Coconut cottage) -near Coral Bay
Windwardside guest cottage -Coral Bay
Has anyone been to any of these to give some advice or which would be the best for privacy and views?
Greatly appreciate any help in choosing.
Thanks,
BJ

We haven't stayed in any of your choices, but just a reminder:
Coral Bay is a very long drive to Cruz Bay for dinner, etc. and also far from Trunk, Maho, Cinnamon, etc.
You did't indicate your plans, but you might want to consider this.
We stayed near Chocolate Hole, and that's about as far as I would like to drive on a daily basis.
Coral Bay was nice to go for lunch, but a bit laid back for us.

I agree that Coral Bay is a bit remote, but some beautiful villas at Estate Carolina.
Not sure how many bedrooms you need, but our family stayed at Chocolate Hole North in Ristaba Villa(4br, 4.5 baths, fab views and nice large pool) Check it out at Vacationvistas.com. We have also rented Hawksbill Villa from Caribbean Villas and resorts(caribbeanvilla.com) It was a little funky but spacious for a 2br, 2 bath. We'll be staying soon at Island Time, another 2 br from Caribbean Villas. Viva Villas(vivacations.com) also has a good selection. If you use a local company, they really know the villas and will help you choose the right one.
Two Bay Views should be very well located and in a nice newer area.

We just came back from a week at Island Horizons villa, in the Carolina estate area of Coral Bay. "Island horizons" does not even begin to decribe the incredible views. It's a very steep, tricky drive to the villa but well worth it. And it's a little closer in than Johns Folly.
We booked through Private Homes for Private Vacations (www.phpv.com), a local management company that's run by a family who has lived on island for over thirty years, and I can't say enough good things about them.

Rt 108 sounds familiar, then you take a right just before the Tropical container parked near Island Blues :~). The paved part of the road is steep, but relatively okay in that there are some spots you can pull aside to let another care pass. Then there's a very steep, rocky unpaved section and a left-hand turn down the same type of road to get to the drive, which is flat (but there's not much room to turn around).
We did see some hardy folks walking down to the Coccoloba shops, etc. but can't imagine how they'd fare on the walk back up ........
Would we stay there again? Absolutely, with the caveat that we wouldn't drive in to Cruz Bay at night for dinner more than once. The drive there and back in the dark is tiring.

Hey, what happened to the original poster? Anyway, if your criteria consists just privacy and views, Captain's Cabin is pretty good. Any of the Coral Bay choices will give you plenty of both. Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole are both more developed areas but are closer to Cruz Bay which many people find convenient.
