HELP!! Budget Last minute booking
I just found out that I will no longer be working..in other word I got laid off. And accidently, my husband has the week of Apr 8 off. I figured this is a good chance for us to travel. Can anyone help me w/ last minute deal? I'd like to go away next week for 5 days. Since I'm unemployed, I'd like to make this a budget trip. I heard Punta Cana is affordable. I heard about how ppl got a really good deal a couple of days before they travelled. I'm wondering where can I find deals like that. I already called a couple of travel agents and they weren't able to help me. Thanks for your help.

Dominican Republic will be one of the cheaper and more affordable islands to go too as well as Mexico. A good place to start might be Liberty Travel - they are on the web. Also there is Expedia Travel, Changes in L'Attitude, all-inclusives.com, and www.vacmart.com
Mary, congrats and I'm sorry to hear you are in the job market all at once. Whenever this happens (as an exec recruiter) I tell people it is a chance to stop and think about what you really want to do and what better way to do that than sitting on a beautiful beach.

My suggestion would be to get to Liberty Travel (www.libertytravel.com) or a Club Med and see if they have any last minute deals available.

Packages right now are available at lot of resorts because with everything that has been going on in our world there is a bit less travel than in past years.

April is still high season, but you should be able to get some great deals.

Also try Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama, they are offering good deals right now too. The nice thing about the Bahamas is usually a good price on airfare, since it is so close.

Another suggestion would be for Romora Bay on Harbour Island (www.romorabay) they were also offering discount prices I heard recently and it is a lovely small resort, on the water with great food, friendly people and beautiful accomodations.

Hope you have a great time.

tweedy

Sorry to hear about your job situation but now you have this opportunity. If you get on the Apple Vacations site and click on Sizzlin' Specials there are some great last minute deals. I don't know where you are located but my friend is leaving from Chicago for Punta Cana, the Melia Caribe Tropical for 979.00 pp for 7 nights. My husband and I stayed there right around this time last year, we loved it.

Thanks for all the great help!

The travel agents weren't able to find anything for me because there is no availability. I prefer leaving from JFK, but I guess now Newark will do.

I called Liberty travel after checking out their website. I saw a special for Melia Caribe Tropical starting from $529 for 4 nights, but they said they don't have the availibility till May. Vacmart quoted me a price at $796 for 4 nites at LTI leaving out of EWR (connecting flight in San Juan). I think it's a bit too much, consider you can stay at Allegro for a week for the price of $699. Is it possible to find a 5-day package in the range of $600 pp? Am I being realistic here?

I guess I still have to make more calls and do more research.

Hi. I came across this vacation deal last week. I'm not sure if it's still available but you can give them a call. It's for 6 nights accomodation at Grand Cayman, air included from JFK for $489pp, departure from April 19-August 29. It was offered by travelbyjen.com and their number is 516-549-4109. I would have taken advantage of this offer but my husband ran out of vacation days having already booked all our trips this year. If you want to check out some other cheap vacation, go to travelfleamarket.com coz I just saw a lot of deals in aruba, punta cana and the bahamas where it will only cost you and your hubby around $1,000 for airfare and lodging. Goodluck!
