Has anyone used this insect repellent?

It is called Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent and claims to repel insects like mosquitoes and no-see-ums. It comes in the form of wipes (perfect since we're doing carry-on and can't take our usual spray product). I found it in the camping section at Target. Did it work for you? Thanks.

Also try "Skin so Soft" by Avon. It always works for me and my family.

Thanks. I've heard about that and always wondered if it was an urban legend re: it working. Good to hear that it does work. Anyway, I'm actually very satisfied with the mosquito repellent we use but I'm looking for an alternative to the liquid ones due the current airline carry-on restrictions.

caribtraveler, SSS works on some and others it doesn't. They recently added a natural mosquito repellent that offers a little protection for a short time period.

If you must have a reliable insect repellent, use something with deet.

Try Sawyer lotion. It is a little white tube and can be bought at REI. It is a 20% "controlled release" Deet formual and has a particularly undeety smell and feel to it. We used it in St. John this past summer and thought that it worked great.

Cutter works very well. I've always found the Skin So Soft to be useless.

We just got back from Roatan Honduras, where the no see ums are legendary, and I attract bugs anyway! We had great results from the Cutter as long as I didn't miss a spot.

I used Avon SSS only once - and got the worst bug bites ever - through the whole bottle away. Don't risk it.

Owa: Yes!

ejcrowe & Alwaysdreamin: Glad to hear more positives. I'll try it and hopefully it'll work great for my son and me.

The one with Picaridin? Used it in Costa Rica during the rainy season, not one bite. No strong stinky smell either. I liked the little spray bottle it came in; could slip it in my pocket. Good stuff.

I use garlic capsules (Kyolic) 4 x 600mg per day. It has no odor, but changes the alkalinity level in the skin, apparently repelling biting insects. I used it after a rainy spell in the Turks and Caicos recently and, while others had quite a few bites, I received a total of 3 in a 5-day period!

Oh- and with anything you ingest, please do thorough research first, and run it by your doctor (to avoid interactions with other medications).

Are the wipes ok to carry on? I haven't flown for a year and a half and I am not quite sure about what I can and can't bring... My roommate wants to know if they're being really strict about liquids, since we're trying to fly carry on only...

Stluciabound,

I just went to St. Lucia last month; hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I flew out of the US (BWI airport) and followed all the TSA rules to the best of my knowledge and didn't have any problems, so I can't say for sure how strict they were being. My sense is that I made them happy by having all my 3 oz or less liquids in my quart-sized ziploc bag, and that they probably would not have caught it if I had non-regulation stuff other places in my bag (I brought a fairly large duffle bag on board). Anyway, I had a few of the insect repellent wipe packets in my bag but I can't remember if I put them in my ziploc bag or just had them with my non-liquids.

Stluciabound: Wipes are fine. And yes, they are VERY STRICT about the rules. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the help! I'm always pretty careful about following regulations but my roommate wanted to see what she could get away with- I'm glad I have some more evidence to discourage her from it!
