Has anyone gotten back from Negril lately?

I was in Negril the last week in Oct. during the hurricane scare. Mostly a lot of wind and rain. There were a few days of sunshine. The beaches were very rough and choppy. None of the divers could dive off of the cliffs at Ricks cafe. Made a lot of new friends there that I keep in touch with. I was told that the beaches a close to back to normal, the shore line has receded, and the clean up continues. I plan on returning in the near future. Everyone always talks bad about Jamaica, but if you just use your common sense as you would anywhere you go you will have a great time. I know I did. The people that I have met have gone out of their way to be helpful and accommodating, I have even been offered places to stay when I return. If you have an open mind and just talk to the people and are not rude or always fearful you will have a good time. If you have any further questions feel free to e-mail me

We were in Negril last Dec 1997,
from 1 Dec thru 7 Dec and the
weather at that time was just great!
Temperatures averaged in the 80's
and the ocean was warm and clear
for snorkeling. We did experience
brief showers which quickly ended
within the half hour during the day
and in the evening a couple of times
while we were there. Since the
hurricane season officially ends on
30 November, your timing is good.
And I second everything the previous
poster said about Jamaica. In
fact, if I could, I would go back to
Jamaica in a hearbeat.
Signed Janice
Here, here, to the positive responses about Jamaica. I get so tired of all the bashing that island gets.

I was in Negril, Ocho Rios & Port Antonio this past September and had a blast. Just treat the locals with respect and no problem, mon.

As you would anywhere, use your common sense and leave the flashy jewelry and clothes at home.

I look forward to return there this comming June '99
