Grenada - anyone been there?
I would like to know if anyone knows what the beaches are like in Grenada, and what is the island like overall? I love the Turks, and Aruba. Will I be disappointed with Grenada? I like white sand beaches and clear water. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, Jane

We stayed on Grand Anse Beach and it was nice. The sand was browner than Aruba and Turks. Lots of peddlers bugging you. They were nice tho and left you alone of you told them no thanks.
The island is lush and mountainous compared to the other two you mentioned. The interior of the island is something else. So green and so much growing there. The people still wash their clothes in the creek on rocks.
Lots of spices grown there. Cool market on Friday I think it was. We didn't get much shopping in because the day we went out was a holiday and shops were closed and the day we were at the Carinage was another holiday and they were closed again.
We had a great guide for the day and he took us everywhere. Overall it is a beautiful island, the people are nice, no major copmplaints other than the price of airfare to get there! LOL

Most of the white sand beaches are in the southern part of the island. A nice beach just south of and over the hill from Grand Anse is Morne Rouge. It is smaller and in general the water is more calm. Beaches on the west coast are volcanic grey. On the east coast they are brown, and there is quite a bit of wind and surf. On the north coast they are beige. So, you have your choice. One of my favorites is at La Sagesse on the southeast coast.
Nightlife on Grenada is very low-key, especially compared to Aruba.

I was in Grenada a few weeks ago. We stayed at the Calabash Hotel and loved it. The hotel has a small beach, but it was very private. The beach at la saggasse is wonderful-we spent a day there. the island is beautiful and the people are great. I think it is less developed then other islands-which I liked. We took the ferry to Carriccou for the day-even less developed and lots of fun. The island is quiet-you will not get the night life etc. that you will find at Aruba.

My husband and I are going to Grenada for the third time this December -- we've visited much of the Caribbean, and its one of our favorite spots. That said, if you are going just for the beaches, you would be making a mistake. Grenada has some lovely ones, as mentioned above -- Morne Rouge is my absolute favorite -- but there is SOOOO much more to Grenada than just the beaches. There are the rain forests, the volcanic crater lake (Grand Etang), the spice plantations, the rum refinery, the marketplace in St. Georges, and warm people. The T&C look like a desert wasteland compared to Grenada (I love Provo as well, but Grenada is far more lush). Grand Anse Beach will satisfy your need for white sand and clear water, but don't stop there.
