Great Resort Pools.

Planning a 5 day 4 night trip to a great Resort end of April. We do not want to site see. A walk on the beach maybe a day at the spa for my wife and a game of Golf for me. But 90% of the trip will be Pool side sipping Margaritas. So the Pool would be the main attraction for me. Lazy River pool to float around in and a swim up bar. Shaded and Sunny spots to nap. Great Restrants to complete the trip.
Moderatly Priced.

It somewhat depends on where you are coming from Mikey! The Atlantis in the Bahamas is a quick trip from the east coast. It has lots of pools and some great slides. The food is good and there is gambling. It is the kind of place where we enjoyed the resort and didn't bother to leave. Nassau is not the greatest place and there is not much there. (my opinion)That being said it is not cheap. Nothing is really that is nice.
We also stayed at the Marriott in Aruba. No lazy river. Nice pools, swim up bar, and hot tubs. Nice beach and good food, but you need to taxi to the good food there.
I also remember hearing that the Hyatt Dorado in Puerto Rico had great pools. Never been, but check it out.
Hopefully someone else will give you some more ideas!

It's the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar that had the incredible river pool with waterfalls, swim up bar, water slide, etc. Best pool I have seen and haven't heard of any better. Hyatt HDM/Cerramar/Dorado is one big resort but Hyatt HDM is closest to the pool.

My family went to Wyndham Rose Hall in Montego Bay. It was an all-inclusive with a great pool. It had a golf course on the location too. It was quite reasonable.

You must try Paradisus Playa Conchal in Costa Rica. the largest pool in Central America, Trent Jones Jr. golf course (which is absolutely beautiful), gorgeous grounds and a staff whose service compares to no others. The best vacation yet, already planning return in 2006.

We have been to the Playa Conchal, but we have just returned from brand new Sunscape the Beach in Punta Cana which has the largest pool in the Carribean....and the most gorgeous I've seen.. Palapas all around the pool, bar in the pool and around the pool (pool side service too), brand new spa, long, long beach, but I can't swear about the golf....There is Casa de Campo and probably golf nearby, but I can't tell y ou where, golf isn't my thing..lol for pictures of pool [email protected]

Hi Eileen!

Just wanted to confirm that guests of the Hyatt Dorado in Puerto Rico can use the fabulous pools at Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar. Correct? Is one more "resort," and one more condos? Thanks for any additional info/clarification.

The Hyatt Dorado is a hotel, the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar is a timeshare condo.

Thanks, Karen!
But either place can use the fancy pool complex, right?
Eileen says three properties are part of one big resort. What's the Cerramar like? Condo or resort or more moderate hotel?

Hi Dreamer2 -- guests of Hacienda Del Mar have access to all facilities at Cerramar and Dorado -- in fact, it's really hard to see where Cerramar ends and HDM begins, they are really one big resort that share the river pool, same beach, water slide etc. It's just that the HDM buildings (two) are about 7 stories high overlooking the pools, ocean and beaches while Cerramar is more low rise. The Cerramar's rooms are closed right now because they are going to be turning it into more timeshares, I believe, but the casino, restaurants and other facilities are all open. It is a really nice resort, I do not think you will be disappointed.

I want to second the recommendation to Paradisus Playa Conchal in Costa Rica. We were there in July and had a fabulous time. Great pool but it is HOT in July (being from TX, we were surprised at how hot it was...but it was also the green season and rained everyday. It was hotter at 7am than at noon most days.) Anyway...great resort & you can put your lounge chairs in the pool in some areas & even bring a raft to float on. We didn't know this beforehand or else we would have brought our own rafts.

Another suggestion is Moon Palace in Cancun. It is not on the strip in Cancun, it is actually outside of town and almost to Playa Del Carmen. We have been there twice and are planning on returning either this summer or Feb. next year. They have 2 resorts in one, basically. One is mostly timeshares, I think. The pools on both are huge and have swim up bars & sun decks with chairs. I think like 7 or 8 restaurants, several bars and a nightclub on site. The beach isn't that great but I prefer to hang at the pool. Another great option to staying here is you get access to the other 4 Palace resorts on the strip in Cancun. If you want to hang at the beach I would suggest taking the hotel shuttle to either Beach or Cancun Palace for the day. The shuttle runs several times a day and takes you to the other resorts on the strip so that you don't have to take a taxi into town for shopping or a night on the town. We did this one night but had to take a taxi back home because the shuttle stops running around 10pm.

My aunt is a travel agent and she has been telling me that we need to check into the Iberostar resorts in Playa. She told me the Pariso (sp?) sounds a lot like Moon Palace.

You & your wife sound a lot like my husband and I. We love to be poolside with drinks in hand for most of the trip.

Hope that helps, good luck!

It's really too bad that there aren't more resorts that have lazy river pools and slides like the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar. Maybe the cost is too high to do something like that or they don't want to encourage being runover with kids. We took a trip from San Juan to the Hyatt Cerromar some years ago to see what the resort was like and we really enjoyed the lazy river that afternoon....and we aren't kids. Just seems to make it a little more interesting than a plain pool.

I'm a little surprised that the Cerromar closed. Every time I tried to book there the prices were high and they were still booked to the hilt. I've read some reviews about the Dorado recently and it sounds like it's a bit worn around the edges and service was not very good....especially considering the prices they were charging.

As far as I know, only resorts other than Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar that have lazy river/slides are Atlantis and Grand Wailea. They certainly are more fun than just a pool.
