Grand Bahama Island?
First time to the Bahamas. Any advise for Grand Bahama Island? or is there a better one to visit. Many friends been to Atlantis, did not like it at all. Looking at the Westin or Sheraton. How are the beaches there? How are the people?
Thanks

Tattaho, please ignore "pilotone". That's a new name (he's got a new name almost every day) for Harald Fuhrmann, the crazy troll poster with big axe to grind, who can't put an English sentence together.
Are you looking for quiet and secluded, or big hotel scene, or middle of the road? Quiet would be the Out Islands like Eleuthera or Exuma, big hotel with nightlife would be Grand Bahama or Nassau, and middle of the road might be Abaco or Harbour Island, also out islands, but a little more to do. Do you want to boat, lay on the beach, visit museums, snorkel, or what? We have to know your likes before we can recommend which of the many beautiful Bahamian (friendly!) islands to visit.

To the OP: As you can see "critic" AKA harald, 1111 and other aliases is quite nuts. I thought he would try to wreck this as well as any other ?'s about the Bahamas. Never have been to GB but have been to Nassau twqice and loved it. I would go again. Good luck, Larry

I suggest you take a look at my amateur web site at www.fortunecity.com/oasis/bahia/443/index.htm. It's devoted to GBI and has several trip reports, links to hundreds of pictures and many other things that help people about to visit the island. There's also a message board if you are interested and have further questions. Feel free to email me at home with any you may have since we've been tourists visting GBI for over 20 years. I also echo the comments about Harald. His posts are made for one purpose, to satisfy personal revenge against the Bahamas because he lost a court case, years ago!

The Westin and Sheraton at Our Lucaya in GBI seem to be among the best places to stay there. We just returned in mid-June and had a fantastic stay. We stayed at the Westin. The hotel and grounds were a little better than the Sheraton, but both properties share the grounds, so you can use the pools, restaurants, etc., located all along the grounds. Numerous pools, including serpentine, infinity pools, a waterslide on the grounds and a fantastic fitness center on the Westin side. The Port Lucaya Marketplace is directly across the street for shopping and dining if you don't like the choices on the property. Get a room in the Westin with a water view, you won't regret it. The beach is very nice and is clean. Recommend The Corner Bistro or La Dolce Vita for dinner at the Marketplace, China Grill deck or the Prop Club (get a seat out in the front open-air cove) for scenic lunches on the property grounds. Be advised the shops (not restaurants) in the Marketplace close early (around 6-7PM) because they service a lot of cruise line passengers that come into Freeport and are shuttled in. They must not have enough business from the resort alone to stay open later. Some of the restaurants in the Marketplace are not open for lunch, either, only dinner. As a whole, the area is great for a relaxing getaway. We are already talking about our next visit!

First be careful this post from Writethetruth is another screed from that Harald weirdo.....ignore everything he says there.
GBI is an excellent place to visit. The Sheraton and Westin complex is guite nice. There is also a very nice smaller hotel just across the street by Port Lucaya called Pelican Bay which is very nice and they have sharing agreement with Sheraton/Westin. The eating and drinking options in Port Lucaya market place are good. The whole island is very good. GO. You will enjoy it.
