Go to the intl/caribbean chat room section of www.gay.com; much of Caribbean can be homophobic in public tho not necessarily so in private. But 'gay' is not a lifestyle choice here that is at all public.

Hey Mark, a great vacation spot is Nassau Bahamas, there are at least 5 clubs/bars to go to. Best spot is called Endangered Species on West Bay Street. You won't see signs for it on the island but just ask where to find Pizza Hut on West Bay Street and you will find the club. The party starts at midnite. Go to the Drop Off (located near the cruise ship ports) first it's where the party starts at 9pm until. Enjoy!!!

Mark~

There is no gay friendly caribbean island. For the most part, the caribbean is very homophobic and that's unfortunate. There is a very nice gay, hetero friendly resort on St. Croix called Cormorant Beach Club. www.cormorantbeachclub.com. Otherwise, you can try www.atlantisevents.com. They're a well known tour operator and they cater to gay men. They have gay cruises and also land based vacations in Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, Mexico. Let me know if you need more info.

San Juan, Puerto Rico I've read and heard has the most diverse nightlife/lodging options in the Caribbean region geared toward Gay men. Nassau Bahamas has a limited number of options as do Guadeloupe and Martinique; Havana has a few Gay-friendly places as well. Good luck.

The Caribbean is not Ibiza, Myknonos or Sitges. But you can feel comfortable in a number of places.Go to Puerto Rico for South Beach,Miami club scenes/Provincetown-in-the-tropics.San Juan's 'Casa Blanca' and other small guesthouses are point zero. The Horned Dorset Primavera on the West Coast, Rincon --quiet,upscale,not gaycentric like San Juan. You'll find gay-owned/gay-friendly small hotels and guesthouses on other islands but they're mostly isolated from the culture at large which is generally conservative and homophobic. And they're / very eccentric and very quirky (which can be a plus point) and best for bringing a partner or group of friends, not a circuit party/hook-up scene. MounTambrin in the Caledonia Mountains (www. mountambrin.com) and Mockingbird Hill in Port Antonio in Jamaica. A few guesthouses on Los Roques, islands off Venezuela which are beachcomber and bliss-out beautiful; Commorant Beach Club as mentioned above;St.Barts,Trinidad and Tobago.
There's generally one club/dancehall here and there that can be found.Cross Bermuda,Caymans,USVI,DR,Antigua, the Grenadines,Aruba,Bonaire and Curacao off your list.

Hey Mark, Grant is right about the Club Endangered Species in Nassau, the party starts at 1am,Saturdays and Sundays are the best. The other clubs in the area inlcude Bahama Boom, the Drop Off, Cafe Paradisio, Pam's Car Parlor, Pineapple Lounge and a couple of other spots as well. Gay life is alive and kicking in Nassau so don't listen to the stereotypes about homophopia, you will be suprised at who you will see in the clubs.Hope this helps you and he "closet" cases as well. Go and enjoy!!!

Old San Juan in Puerto Rico is gay friendly. I can't say the same for the rest of the island.

BEN...Mark asked for a caribbean island. Granted: Nassau is not in the Caribbean, but he was looking for a warm climate with the tropical setting( great beaches, clear blue waters,,fresh air etc).

St. Martin has a big gay following. I also heard that Puerto Rico is a good place for gays.

San Juan, PR is gay-friendly. We always stay at a gay-friendly guesthouse called Numbero Uno in Ocean Park, San Juan. My husband and I are not gay --- it just so happens that our favorite place is gay-friendly and we have seen gay couples at the guesthouse. The guesthouse is a chic boutique inn.

Lots of gay clubs in San Juan also. But where all the gays stay are mostly in Condado, San Juan. The Atlantic Beach Hotel I believe it's called. Never been there. Condado is where all the boutiquey/designer shops are. Ocean Park is an upscale residential district though parts of it are not as upscale.

But for the most part, lots of gay clubs in San Juan.
