Fun Destinations for Fortieth?
Four of my closest childhood friends and I want to plan a trip to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We're looking for places in Europe or an Island within 6 hours of the East Coast (specifically Baltimore)that are interesting. We would like to find deals on flights, or even package deals if they are flexible with hotels, meals etc... I'd appreciate any information or suggestions you can provide!

Hi Cheryl,
To get useful suggestions you really should give people more to go on. 6 hours from Baltimore includes the entire Carribean.
Also, what is important to your group? Food, beach, nightlife, culture, shopping... willing to trade nightlife for a killer beach, or to trade for less beach but casinos and great shopping? That type of thing. Without a hint of what you're looking for, there's no way to narrow the choices. A very good time can be had on any of the islands, depending of course on your definition of a very good time.

Prague is one of the nicest places I've gone to - great restaurants. I think it is one of the top European cities. If you do go to Prague travel down the southern Bohemia area to Ceske Krumolov, you and your girlfriends would have a great time in this town. I went with my hubby and kids a few years ago. We were fortunate that my brother lives in Prague so we had a great place to stay. Prague lodging is very expensive but the food and drink are ridiculously cheap. They also have some of the best beer I have ever tasted in my life. A good website to find lodging with your girlfriends is www.vrbo.com , they have places all over the world. You can find a place large enough to hold all of you at a good price.
It really depends on what you guys like to do? Do you want to just relax, drink wine on the beach and talk about the good old days or do you want a very active vacation? My neighbor just did a spa vaction in Phoenix with her "turning 40" childhood friends - she loved it. I went to Palm Springs with mine when we turned 40, which was nice but a more adventuresome vacation would have been more memorable.
How about a cruise in the carribean or a river cruise in Europe? What is your timetable?

thanks for the response. We're looking for sort of a different place- no to the Bahamas, but yes to Costa Rica, for example. I'd love to hit the Galapagos Islands or Egypt, but those destinations are too far. We were looking for something in the North/South direction from the East Coast because one of us gets pretty bad jet lag for time zone differences greater than 3 or 4 hours.
