Freeport is a Dump!

Recently went to Freeport. Big mistake. The area is a dump infested with low-lifes. Some of the diving was good, but that's about it. Go ANYWHERE else in the Bahamas.

I wouldn't call Freeport a dump per se, but it sure wasn't one of my favorite places. The people were unfriendly and the prices were outrageous.

Literally thousands of people disagree with you about Freeport. Unless you are specifically referring to the downtown area, Freeport is a great place to vacation, especially in the Port Lucaya area and at the resorts further outside downtown like Club Fortuna, the Ritz, etc.. The overwhelming number of postings about vacationing on GBI in general are extremely positive.

Have you heard anything about Island Palm in Freeport? We are going to stay there in March.
Thanks, Pam

I really didn't care for Freeport. If this is your first time to the Caribbean, avoid it...it's not representative of the region and more likely than not, you will be disappointed.

Ted, what didn't you like about Freeport? Have a chance for a dive trip there over Labor day. Where did you stay?

I just love it when these gutless people post stuff like this and don't have the guts to use a valid mail alias. Anyone reading this, keep that in mind.

Pam,
Island Palms is last on my list of places I'd stay on GBI. It's in downtown, not near anything, and has virtually no amenities. It is also a front for a time share outfit that'll drive you bonkers. Go somewhere else if you can, and the sister resort of Island Palms is, surprisingly, excellent. That's Island Seas, is on the beach, but also somewhat isolated from everything. I'd recommend The Reef Village at The Lucayan. Check out their website at www.thelucayan.com. We're going for the second time this year next Monday and I'll be posting a trip report around the 13-14th on two or three of the Bahamas message boards. Suggest you check www.bahamas-mon.com also. It has many trip reports of several of the resorts on GBI.

We are not gutless people but people who have been jumped and flamed in the past when our opinion dared to differ from the powers that be on this board.

Okay, not really a dump, but avoid Club Fortuna- Spent a week there last year- Was like camp (food) for adults. Finally escaped one day to play golf & eat at Lucayan- So happy to have an Absolut & tonic in a real glass!!Accomadations were okay, but very limited with no car, and had to chose each day whether to buy all inclusive- if you don'y purchase you can't even get a coke.
