Four Seasons Nevis or Caneel Bay??
I'm in the process of planning a wedding & honeymoon (just the two of us) for either July or August 2003. Have narrowed down the choices to either the Four Seasons Nevis or Caneel Bay. Based on experiences, would love to hear any recommendations, etc. to help in the decision-making process. Thanks!

KK,
I think it will depend on several factors.
We stayed at FS Nevis in early September and nearly got hit by a hurricane, so if you are looking at late August, I would definitely recommend one of the more southerly Caribbean islands (ABC's) or perhaps Tahiti.
Nevis is very laid back, and there's not much nightlife other than local parties or very lowkey entertainment at the resorts.
I have not been to Caneel.
The last time we went to Nevis we stayed in a villa for two weeks and would probably not return to the Four Seasons, although we had a lovely time.

You will love getting married on an island. We almost went with Caneel until many people wrote to us about looking into a villa on St. John.

We were so glad we did. We planned the wedding/honeymoon over the internet and talked to agents and coordinators over the phone. Everything went so smoothly.

I must say we were so glad we rented the villa. The villa was beautiful, we got married after 5:00pm on Trunk Bay by the waters edge. There were only 2 people down the other end of the beach. It was so private and pristine. A chef came to the villa to cook the wedding dinner. We ate on the deck by candelight. A memory we will never forget.

We did drop by to see Caneel and the grounds are beautiful. We saw a couple getting married on a knoll overlooking the beach. Very pretty.

Either way, I would go with St. John. Beautiful island and much to do.

Congratulations and best wishes.
My husband and i just honeymooned at the FS NE=evis in late Sept. and it was the most amazing, romantic trip. I can't say enough about it. Service is amazing, the grounds are just beautiful, the beach and pool are perfect, and the island is gorgeous. Food is amazing too. And there's a fantastic golf course as well.

They actually greet you at the dock and give you a mini-tour and take you to your room (which was beautiful). Within five minutes of arriving, we promised ourselves we would return as soon as we could. I cannot complain about one thing.. it was the perfect place.

However, Nancy makes a good point regarding hurricane season.. we went during this seasons also, and really lucked out with the weather (it was great the whole time). We were comfortable with the risk, and it paid off. In fact, it was as though we had the place to ourselves at time, and i can't imagine the place being as nice when crowded.

However, since you are actually planning a wedding (and not just the honeymoon part of it), you probably are taking a bigger risk in the weather.

oh, one final thought, if you do go here, get the Romance Package unless you really like to venture out for meals. (this includes breakfast and dinner, without drinks) It is quite expensive at this resort.

Best wishes!

Kimberly;

How lucky you are to even be able to visit one of these properties. My hubbie and I have been to both within the last 4 years and enjoyed them each for what they were.

FS is for sure the more upscale property and easily has the best service. Nevis is safe, pretty and has many unique other properties to visit as well.

Caneel has far and away the best beaches. What's more, a "Scotts Beach" premium room puts you directly on the beach. A great feature of Caneel is that you can tie your stay there with a few night visit to Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda. It's a beautful 90 min cruise through the Sir Francis Drake Channel to get there. Little Dix is also on a great beach.

Sooo...... I dont think you'll go wrong with either choice. Just pick one and promise yourselves to visit the other within a few years. Possibly some of the other reasons posted could help guide you.(hurricanes for one)

Good luck!!

July and Aug are still fairly safe before the cape verde hurricanes really start their treks but there is no guarantees and that's why there is trip insurance. By September the risk increases dramatically but it is still a hit or miss thing.
Both are wonderful destinations but 4Seasons will give you more personal service and it is a magnificant property. Caneel's beaches are far better than 4Seasons.
