We stayed at the ElPresidente in Ixtapa, beautiful, safe small town. Considered the "Beverly Hills" of Mexico. Lots of shopping to do in open air markets, make sure you take the snorkeling trip to Ixtapa Island. Wonderful way to spend a day of just doing nothing. Take a taxi to Zihuatenejo for a day of shopping. You can get great deals on silver jewelry. If you would like anymore info., feel free to e-mail me.

Hey Lynn, we've been there last year in feb...the staff will do everything to make your stay enjoyable. The grounds are so beautiful...the food is very good...not exceptional...the hotel is three buildings ( different colors )...about 12 floors each...we found the entertainment was geared to french Quebecers, ie: lip sinking to quebec singing artists...nothing to do with the local culture!!!How unfortunate!!! but just go next door to the next hotel, then the next and so on...as there are so many mariachies around.....we would go back to Ixtapa....

We stayed at the Fontan a few years ago & I was not impressed. The resort was very plain & the food was very ordinary & repetitive. If I went back to that area I would like to try to get a place in Zihuatanejo. It was a beautiful fishing village with natives and lots to see & do. Also very safe.

My husband and I went to Ixtapa two years ago (almost exactly). We stayed at the Double Tree which was, at first just adequate, but the longer we stayed, the more we liked it. The beaches are very nice. Sand gets quite hot. Since we were hot weather novices (from MN), we had to learn the hard way to bring sandals everywhere. I thought the Mexican Fiesta at one of the hotels was a waste of money and time. In fact, we left in the middle of it. Definitely go to Ixtapa Island. Very nice experience there. We snorkeled there. We went to Zhi several times. We chartered a small boat there and fished three different occasions and caught two sailfish and one marlin. If you are interested in more information (I tend to ramble), please e-mail me. We are leaving on February 24 for Bonaire, so better hurry!
