Feedback on Long Bay Beach Resort

My daughter is planning to honeymoon in Tortola in June. Has anyone stayed at Long Bay Resort recently? What did you think of the accommodations, housekeeping, etc.

Long Bay was one of my most unpleasant vacations. Altho the beach is lovely to look out, we found the water unswimmable and did not enjoy the trekking to other beaches either by renting a vehicle or paying the fee Long Bay charges to shuttle to Smuggler's Cove. Altho that is just one of the "complaints" that I had, I thought it was way over priced for what it offered and would encourage her to look at some of the other lovely spots in the BVI that would be perfect for a honeymoon! Check scubamom.com for her reviews of some wonderful spots!

I felt Long Bay was not terrible-it is just not special like Little Dix,Caneel
Bay,Jalousie Hilton,Cap Juluca etc. These Hotels are 5 star crown resorts. We went to Tortola for the first time Last December and stayed in a beachfront room at Long Bay. The room was large, tile floors, nice large bath room. What did bother me was in the center of the bed there was a hole in the bed spread. The first night we had trouble with the air-conditioner,and they replaced the unit right away. The view from the room was glorious, beautiful water, long beach. The beach has alot of rocks and old coral-so to swim you walked about 800 feet to find a nice great sandy bottom.
We had a lovely beach front breakfast area that we thoroughly enjoyed.
We have traveled to many islands ,were disappointed in Tortola beaches, but all in all LOng Bay is the best hotel on Tortola. We checked out Sugar Mill and preferred Long Bay.
I think Long Bay is a good value compared to the top resorts on other islands. What are your daughter's expectations and how much do they want to spend? Why Tortola? What are they looking for?
I agree with Karen there are other spots-but if the choice is made just go with it. They will have fun and if they have never been to the caribbean, I am sure it will be fine.
Some people like Long Bay Beach Resort while others like me hate the place and would never return again. The staff's committment to the satisfaction of their guests is almost nonexistent. Our favorite place to stay on Tortola is the Villas at Fort Recovery Estate. If you want to read comments by several different people about these two places, go to the BVI Travel Talk Board. It's address is http.http://www.traveltalk.com/cgi-bin/ta...ib/bvi/travel/. Then scroll down and you will see a long thread "longbay or fort recovery" started by Tracy on August 25,2000.

The correct web site address for the BVI Travel Talk Board should be http://www.traveltalk.com/cgi-bin/ta...ib/bvi/travel/.
Addresses for the two resorts mentioned by me in the above post are as follows: http://www.fortrecovery.com and http://www.longbay.com

We stayed at Long Bay a few years ago and thought it was pretty nice. Our room was huge and airy and well kept, but it was a hike and a half up to it. The view was spectacular.

The beach was nice to walk on, tho a little steep in places, we had no problems with rocks that others seem to encounter. There was no snorkeling right in front of it tho and that was a minus for us.

The staff was so so and you had to be careful about your bill. Their math skills weren't A+.

The food was good, but a little pricey and the portions were awfully small.
