Family of three (with a 2 year old) in serach of the perfect family destination

We are looking to travel this Fall/Winter and would love suggestions on where to go to enjoy sun, beach and family activities. Family friendly hotels/resorts are of great interest. Of course a safe destination is also required.

Thanks for your help.

My suggestions for you:
1) Hyatt Cerromar in Puerto Rico (www.Hyatt.com)
2) La Cabana Beach Resort in Aruba (www.LaCabana.com)
I have been to both these places and they are safe, clean, family friendly and a good value. La Cabana is especially good for families as it has condo-style accommodations with a kitchenette. Cerramar is 40 minutes outside of San Juan, a completely contained resort, you don't have to leave the property if you don't want to.

would not recommend much of Carribean until Thanks giving week or later due to hurricanes and unsettled weather.
Have an idea you have not considered. Isla Mujeres--a small island about 10 miles from Cancun.
Laid back , friendly, small town, cheap and very safe. Norde beach is a very nice carribean style beach-shallow --calm--warm and kid friendly. Your child will be interacting with locals as well as European children.
We have a 16 page document on the island and surrounds that we can e-mail you if you request. dan and ginny
The last post might give you something to consider. If you really want to be near people of another culture this could be interesting for you. There is nothing on Isla Mujeres that is luxury or grand but it is were many Mexican families go for sun also. In going to less developed areas you must be aware of the limitation of good health care for small children. As a part of your descision consider has long it would take to get her back to top medical facilities. Also, I think Puerto Rico would be a good choice and if budget is a consideration Culebra has a lot to offer. It is part of the US and very close to Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico you want to get away from San Juan. There is little family oriented places until you get into the real countryside away from the casinos. If I had a 2 year old I would pick a place that offers the best chance of getting to top medical care fast. Also, make certain that there is careful sun and insect protection. At this age they are not at the point where they can communicate much.

Louis--I am sure you must be aware that there are two hospitals and 3 clinics on Isla Mujeres + many Egnlish speaking doctors. Also there is an excellant american hospital in Cancun which is only 12 miles away. Anyway we see lots of kids from the US and Europe on the beach at all times when we have been there. dan
