My fiance and I are looking at a Caribbean honeymoon in May. Out of St. Kitts, Curacao, Aruba, Antigua, Bahamas - are there any that are particularily high-priced? Any others that I haven't listed that I should avoid? Thanks for the help.

Personally, I would never avoid an island just because it's known to have expensive restaurants. Why?...Because in (most) cases, you can also find more budget oriented choices as well. That also goes for accomomdations. With a little research, I'm sure you can find cheap eats at every location you listed.

Well, yes, but I know that Bermuda is very expensive, even on low end, and we cannot afford it.

I know Aruba has many restaurants from low to high end. Many American chains as well. I cannot speak of the other islands.

Anguilla is very expensive!! (though it has some cheaper options as well)

Caribbean in general is an expensive destination. Most foods get imported on most islands.
Your best bets are all inclusives in Punta Cana or Cancun, Playa del Carmen area, or Mexico in general.

Aruba had quite a variety of restaurants. The food was very good there. You can eat cheaply or expensive there.
If you went with a meal plan or an all inclusive feature, you would not have to worry as much about the cost. You would know up front about cost. I would not do a meal plan in Aruba, but some of the other islands, I would. Antigua is full of all inclusive option resorts. Mexico would offer many all inclusive options at a great price. On St. John, you can rent a villa and eat breakfast and lunch in to conserve on money.
Look around, there are many good places to go that won't break the bank!!!

It's hard to generalize restaurant prices in the Bahamas as that chain consists of 800+ islands & cays. Nassau. for instance, will have more higher priced restaurants than many of the Bahamas Out-islands. Also, as others have said you can find moderately priced restaurants on every island. You just have to look around a bit and ask the locals for guidence. That said, of the other islands you listed Aruba will have the biggest number of higher end restaurants although it has it's share of moderate priced ones so that's no reason to avoid it. You'll find many moderate priced restaurants on Curacao, St. Kitts and Antigua.

As for "known" expensive islands, St. Barth's and Anguilla have their fair share of upscale dining but like everyone says you can find moderate dining places if you take the time to look.

You can stretch your food budget by staying in a condo of small rental cottage and fixing some or all of your own meals. People on budgets do that all the time.

Don't let the cost of restaurant food scare you away from an island. The reason you heard about high prices is most people doing research ask about the "best restaurants" on a particular island or when writting trip reports they describe their most memorable and romantic meals which are usualy the higher end places. The islands are no different from any other location (even your own home town) there are expensive restaurants and there are lower end places.

Thank you all. I'm leaning toward St. Kitt's, because of the low-key atmosphere. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't super high-priced. But we'll see what my fiance has to say =)
