Enchanted Gardens
Has anyone been to Enchanted Garden in Ocho Rios? If so, I would love to hear about it. The only thing holding me back is the fact that you have to take a shuttle to the beach. Bummer! Anyway, it is cheaper than some of my other choices and they have 14 waterfalls and a spa that costs extra. One thing that I read (I think it was this resort) was that you have to dress formally for dinner. Another bummer - who wants to take a bunch of fancy clothes to the caribbean while on vacation? Please let me know anything that you know about this place.

I've stayed at the Enchanted Garden three times and had a great time each stay. You do take a shuttle to the beach, but it runs every half hour. If you
really like to be on the beach it might not be the
place for you. As for dressing for dinner, it all depends on which restaurant you eat at. One is
much more formal than the others. I did see men in
jeans and women in dress shorts at dinner. Please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like more info.

My wife and I stayed there in 1994 and enjoyed it very much. We didn't mind the shuttle to the beach because as the other respondent noted, it runs frequently. Theres a shak on the beach that serves snacks all day - burgers and things like that. We had the all inclusive and could get drinks and food whenever we wanted. You can snorkel or sail for free, get your hair braided. But don't wander off the beach. We walked with some friends into downtown ocho rios and never felt threatened although if you flash any money you'll be surrounded immediately by salespeople selling everything from drugs to beer to jewlery. The resort is very nice but lots of hills. You have to climb lots of stairs to get anywhere. But the grounds are absolutely wonderful - like being in a tropical rainforest. The room we had was also good. We had a masterbedroom upstairs, a full living room downstairs and a balcony with a small plunge pool. The food was nothing to write home about, but tastes vary. There was certainly plenty of fresh fruit and a wide variety of things to eat. I didn't think the restaurants were overly formal. The natives are friendly and we had fun at the nightclub. good luck.
