Eleuthera, and Nassau could not possibly be more different. I would pick Eleuthera over Nassau. I love the natural beauty of the island. Nassau, is just another very congested city. I prefer the quiet, slower pace of life. If you want to experience the Bahamas at its unspoiled best Eleuthera is the place for you.

We flew our private plane from Michigan to Eleuthera in Feb. '97. Stayed at a private home on Winding Bay (pink sand!) between Tarpum Bay & Rock Sound. It was heavenly. Very secluded and quiet--most people we saw on the beach at one time...maybe eight! Eleuthera is a "family island" - no casinos, no big cities. We did not even lock the house when we left. Cars available to rent at the airport. House was fully equipped so we cooked and ate there maybe half the time. If you go, be sure to eat at "Shine's" seafood place in Tarpum Bay! Great food and wonderful people. Nassau is just like Detroit--another big city and too much crime. We plan to return to Eleuthera again next year. Can't say enough good things about the island and especially the people!!

also stayed in Eluethera last Feb-March way up on North
end by Current - very nice home - great beach - am interest
in name of home on Winding Bay - would suggest North
end for ease to Harbor Island but would now like
to be more south for better and closer access to bays
for fishing.

I laughed loud when I read the reply that compared Nassau with Detroit!!! That is exactly what I tell everyone about that dump. Don't waste your time, unless you enjoy bad service and rude locals around every corner!

Just returned from a week in Eleuthera, North ELeuthera, Current. Loved every minute. The people of Current were lovely, the house was great. Very relaxing, loved the beach and the water. Looking forward to returning next year.

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Bahamas in Nov. '97. We're considering renting a house or villa since we're thinking of bringing my mom along to help with our 2 year old. Any information or suggestions you have about renting a private home in Eleuthera would be greatly appreciated. We're a little concerned about renting a place sight unseen. Thanks.
