Dominican Suggestions

We are planning a destination wedding and are considering The Dominican Republic. Any suggestions about all-inclusive resorts? Where not to stay? Been told Punta Cana is the best, most active area? We are 27 and will have 30-40 guests of similar ages attending.

I am also interested in replies. I am in the process of booking my destination wedding in D.R at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace. The wedding coordinator is very helpful. I would lik to know what people think about bringing children to this island. I will have about 60 guests which include appox 10 children .

Agree with above poster...go to Debbie's Carribean, she has info on weddings in the D.R. We were at the Catalonia Bavaro in Punta Cana in March and I was able to get info for a friend for a possiible wedding there, prices very reasonable..

I've been to Paradisus in Punta Cana twice in the last 2 years. It was that good that my husband made me book the same place the second time. We are in our early 30's and enjoyed every minute. There is a big variety of food ala carte for dinner, all delicious. Breakfast buffet is expansive but always the same. Only a couple of more options for lunch. Out of the sister properties, one which is next door (Melia Bavaro?), Paradisus is the best hands down! My sister stayed at the other property and I went to visit. I found it much more congested and I think most of their restaurants are buffets, even for dinner. Noticed there is a camp for little kids at Paradisus but don't know anything about it. The only thing we did off the premises was swim with the dolphins nearby. Actually you don't really play much with them. You take a few posed pictures (which turn out fantastic) and you can pet them for about 10 minutes. Oh and I saw a wedding last time. It was held in a white gazebo with lots of fresh flowers, very pretty but not on the water (closer to hotel lobby). The reception was held on the beach with huge (7ft) palm tree branches as makeshift walls but really could not see inside. Very tropical looking. Hope this helps!

Kristine, my husband & I (I'm 26, he 29) had a fabulous week-long vacation at the Paradisus resort in the beginning of May. I agree w/Angela, the reort is the best in Punta Cana (besides the Royal Uvero Alto) which was still being built when we were there. We hope to try that one our next time in the Dominican Republic. There are 7 ala carte restaurants for dinner,a breakfast buffet, and for lunch a buffet, 2 places by the beach, or the pool bar for lighter fare. As well you had access to 24 hour room service, all meals. The pool stretches from one end of the resort to the other it seemed, w/many thatched huts all around, & a swim up bar too. The beach is white & the water a beautiful turquoise color, truly post-card looking! They had snorkeling, free scuba instruction, non- motorized water sports all offered on the beach, free of charge. So you could be as active or lazy as you wanted. The dominican people were very friendly & helpful. It would help to know a little spanish before you go. We did see a wedding taking place near the lobby as well; the couple actually had a horse drawn carriage to leave in. Their reception was on the beach as the other wedding Angela had seen. We truly loved this resort and would go back in a heart beat, it was sad leaving. Hopefully this info helped, if you have any other ?? don't hesitate to ask.

My husband and I stayed at the Barcela Bavaro Palace in 2000. It was very nice, well kept grounds and very clean, spacious rooms. If you stay at the Palace, you can eat and drink at the 4 sister hotels nearby. They are the Beach,(not recommended) the golf, the casino resort and the garden the food was really good. If you want more info, you can e-mail me directly. We would definetly return.
