Dazed and Confused please help!!!

Now I know why I have to plan way in advance,my mind goes everywhere!I thought that Grenada was it however way to much time traveling for a one week vac.Would like to spend atleast a full week in such a wonderful island. Here are some likes and dislikes.
1]great bchs don't have to be long, just palm trees
2]snorkeling,hiking,diving
3]culture,friendly people
4]some nightlife Not crazy clubs just good local spots with music
5]NO casinos or highrises
We are flying from Orlando and would like to keep travel time at around 5 hrs.
So far I am thinking Virgin Gorda,Harbour Island,Roatan,Belize or any other sugg.a more experienced traveler might have.We have been to Oahu,Maui,St.John,Puerto Rico, and Jost Van Dyke.We loved them all for completely different reasons,Oahu being our least fav.Oh yeah would like to keep budget betweem $1,500-$2,000 not including airfare and will be traveling with another couple so a villa would be split cost.
Thank you so much for your sugg.and advice.

Please take a look at Montserrat. You will find all the things you are looking for & perhaps much, much more. I have a couple of trip reports on here from the past few years & would be happy to help w/any questions. BTW, you'll also have the beaches to yourself. Not many palm trees but they are typcially well shaded by the cliffs.

You're definitely on the right track. Grenada is a treasure, and would suit your wishes perfectly, but it is a PITA to get to. VG and the others you mention would probably work as well. May I suggest you add the Abacos to your list? Coming from Florida, any of the Out Islands are relatively easy for you to reach, and the Abacos have just the right balance of activity and seclusion to make you happy.

My suggestions would be Turks and Caicos, Ambergris Caye, Cozumel or Grand Cayman. All have nice beaches (T&C and Grand Cayman the best on this list), snorkeling & diving, friendly people and a bit of nightlife (probably a bit less on T&C than the others).

Roatan and Virgin Gorda don't have much nightlife at all, although the diving/snorkeling is great (better on Roatan than Virgin Gorda).

I second Provo in Turks and Caicos. We live in Leesburg Fl and fly there out of Orlando changing planes in Miami. About a three hour trip. Best beach I have ever seen. Great restaurants. Check out www.coralgardensongracebay.com. only reef for snorkeling off beach right in front. If you e-mail me [email protected] I can put you in touch with a friend who has a two bedroom 2100 sqft condo at Coral Gardens.

Ah, yes, I know what you mean about the travel time to Grenada. It's a full day affair on each end--no good! So, unless you can squeeze one more day away from work/school/family or whatever your obligations are, it's best saved until you can have more time to enjoy it.

I was crazy about Virgin Gorda when we visited last month, and it certainly meets all of your criteria. There was definitely some nightlife on the island, but we didn't really seek it out. The piano bar at the Rock Cafe (more touristy) or a place called Limers (more local) could be what you're looking for. Leverick Bay also had live music and a little bit of dancing before the Mocko Jumbies show. Thos things we witnesses personally, but I'd imagine there are other jumpin' joints on the island...

What is your price range? For a moderate/medium size budget, take a look at www.guavaberryspringbay.com. I thought Spring Bay was the best snorkeling I saw on the island and I would stay there in a heartbeat.

For slightly more upscale, but with prices to match, the Mango Bay resort are good, and commensureately nicer and pricier are the private villas at Mahoe Bay. If you love water sports, Bitter End Yacht Club could be a good match for you. Little Dix has a classy country club ambience to it. We never made it to Biras for dinner like we'd wanted, but it would be my favorite hotel to stay in on VG.

You can top my recent trip report if you want the full details of daytrip, dining and snorkeling.
