Curacao Transportation
My wife and I are going to Curacao in a few weeks, for a week long anniversary. What are our transfer options and cost from Hato airport to the Marriott Resort? Is there any reason to rent a car during the week?

We were ia curacao a couple years ago and rented a car (think it was avis)...I forget the agency but it was right at the airport. We like to explore the island and visit different beaches. We found the car to be essential to do this. The beaches are spread out. The beach at the Marriott is nice but I would also recommend Knip beach, cas abou, and porto marie. My favorite was Barbara beach. Beautiful blue calm water and not crowded. You'll also need a car if you want to check out the center of town. Also if you are there for a week you may want to try different restaurants. Portofino at the Marriot was very good food. Another favorite with awesome views at night was Fort Wwaakzaamheid. If you do decide to rent a car do it over the internet/travel agent before you get there. The rates are much cheaper if booked in advance. They tried to scam us by saying they didnt have our reservation. But we had our email confirmation so they gave us the car at the original rate...have a great time.

I agree 100% with mnag. I'd like to ad two things. I found taxi's to be very expensive while in Curacao which is why we rented a car for 5 out of 12 nights (we didn't feel we needed a car everyday). It gave us the chance to explore and go out for dinners while not shelling out a fortune in taxi fares.
Also, always look closely at your receipt before signing any credit card charge slip. I had a few businesses try to over charge me. The worst senerio was the car rental company. If I remember correctly I think they tried to over charge us by about $300.
We stayed a portion of our time in Curacao at the Marriott. It was our favorite place of the three resorts/hotels we split our time between.
Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the responses. We will be there for a week, but I did not want to rent a car the entire time. Does anyone know how much the transfer fee or a cab is from Hato to the Marriott? If it is a lot, I may be best off by just renting a car for that too.
