Curacao itinerary
Hi all,
We are going to Curacao at the end of December 2018 (family of 4 from Canada). We have two daughters (12 and 14). We have 8 full days staying in the St. Willobrodus area. Any comments on our notional itinerary below? We picked Playa Cas Abao and Porto Marie but I dont know if we should swap one out for Playa Kenepa? Thanks in advance. Dank u!
- Day touring Willemstad
- Aloe farm/ostrich farm
- Hato caves
- Seaquarium + snorkelling
- Christoffel park jeep tour/Shete boka
- SUP rental (Spanish water)
I should note that my DH does not do well on boats so we hadn't planned on the Klein Curacao day trip.
Thank you!

Hello Iowamom,
We just got back today! What a great trip! We all really loved Curacao - very different island with an interesting history and culture. My kids enjoyed the Caribbean side but also being on a Dutch island (i.e., stopping for Dutch treats like french fries dipped in mayo!).
Highlights for us as follows:
- animal encounter experience at the Seaquarium - we got to go snorkelling in the lagoon to pet and feed rays, feed lots of fish and two different kinds of sharks (the latter through a hole in a glass wall). The kids thought it was very cool. The seaquarium is also included - small aquarium but it has a nice dolphin show.
- Shete boka park - really cool land formations with huge crashing waves from a natural blowhole. Can visit along with Christoffel park to see the green lush mountains. We did a safari tour with the park office. If you are fit enough there is a hike you can do to the top of the mountain (need to go up at @ 8 a.m.).
- visiting Willemstad - beautiful gabled houses like in Amsterdam but with bright tropical colours. Take the swinging bridge from the Otrabanda to the Punda. Interesting cultural and historical museums/sights as well including the Kura Hulanda museum and the oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere.
- visiting beautiful coves with white sand and turquoise waters for great snorkelling - especially on the west side of the island (note you need water shoes for some of the beaches are coral)
- eating delicious fresh seafood and local foods (including batidos or smoothie trucks) as well as trying foods because of Dutch heritage such as Indonesian rijstaffel and Surinamese food. Plus, snack trucks with yummy fries and mayo and other (deep-fried) Dutch snacks! Some of the landhuisen (plantation houses) have been converted to restaurants where you can also dine.
- ostrich farm (note, age 16 up you can ride an ostrich!) kids were disappointed they were too young but they enjoyed feeding the ostriches and standing on an ostrich egg. Had a good lunch at the cafe to eat ostrich burgers!
- Hato caves- worthwhile stop to tour an above-ground cave. about 5 mins from the airport.
- we did a SUP tour on the Spanish waters - it was fun but a bit challenging because of the winds!
Hope this helps. Feel free to post with more specific Qs.
