Hi again Kathleen.....

I hit the reply button too soon. Also meant to say that the reason I have not commented on the Santiago or eastern Cuba areas is that I have not been there.... YET ! ! !

I hope to get there on one of my trips, but alas, no budget at the present time. So I will only offer direct advice on what I have personal experience with. Hope this answers your questions.

Steve

Steve,
That's too bad about the web site. I enjoyed many of the photos--and the quality of light in them. When you do get them re-posted, please let me know.
After we get back from our May trip, I'll let you know my impressions of Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa, and maybe I'll be able to answer one of your questions, for a change.
Kathy
I use both ofoto.com and pbase.com to store photos (without charge).

pbase is better in terms of uploading the photos to the site - you can zip a whole lot and upload in one step. but it doesn't provide a slideshow format for viewing.

ofoto can be tedious when uploading because you have to browse link to each photo and then upload 10 images at a time. but it does provide a slideshow format for viewing. it also allows you to request that visitors log in to access the images or not, as you prefer, with the advantage that if they do you can record visits and comments from guests in the visitors album.

kavey

Steve, Sorry, happily married, and will become a grandmother in April.
I was interested in your photos because I teach a photography program in an art department in a University, and thought your photos, especially the quality of light, were excellent. I'm hoping to see and capture that light quality while in Cuba. How's that for a quick critique.
Kathy

Hi Kathleen:

Thanks for the comments on my photography, especially from a University professor. F.Y.I. is that I went to Ryerson Polytechnical University here in Toronto and majored in Photojournalism, followed by a 15 year career with various newspapers then onwards to computer graphic design and also Aviation photography. So Photography and design are my life, which probably explains why my photos were ok. (says humble me)LOL.

You can check out some of my other photos (all flying) at the following link.

http://www1.photosig.com/userphotos.php?portfolioId=76587

I am going to start to set up a Cuban portfolio on this site as well, which will allow me to again show the photos.

Oh, and as to Cuban light quality. Well, I hope you like getting up early in the morning, and also shooting into evening twilight. That seems to be the two nicest quality light times of the day. The tropical noon time sun in quite harsh. Time to put the cameras down, have a cold cerveza and relax.

Have a great trip.

Steve
