Cruisinred - Nevis

BTW - the weather was wonderful yesterday and today. It is just a beautiful night right now.

I had lunch at Montpelier today, it was really nice, quiet, there were not a lot of guests - 4 rooms checked out yesterday.

Make sure you have the Gazpacho if you eat lunch there at all, it was wonderful. I had shrimp salad because they were out of lobster and my mother had wahoo it was really nice. There was only 1 person at the pool, you should have the whole place to yourself. The staff there is so nice too.

Let me know if you need any recommendations - I think I told you to eat dinner at Bananas its closed Sun and Mon. I ate there on Tuesday night. The curry chicken is wonderful if you like curry, I had the jerk chicken kabobs they were really great. If you like salad with arugula it is fantastic on Nevis because they grow it here.

I also had lunch at FS it was very good - salmon wrap.

Anyway, I know you will have a great time. Let me know if you want to know anything else before you come. I am here now...

Just want to know how the FS looks. My husband and I will be going in 2 weeks. How was your plane ride and which airline did you take? I hope your vacation keeps going so well.

The FS looks great, it is a very nice resort, beautiful gardens, wonderful golf course. We ate at the restaurant at the pool. The food was very good. I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

We flew American from San Juan. It actually was delayed for a while, but it was OK. We got here in time for dinner so that was good since we had friends cooking for us!

Have fun!

MIM04-
Thanks so much for the updates. I can't wait to go; I leave tomorrow. I just hope that this Hurricane Adrian stays well clear of Nevis.

I will put dinner at Bananas on the agenda for Tuesday night; I love curry and jerk chicken

Hope you had a great trip. I am definitely looking forward to discovering Nevis.

Thanks again,
Cruisinred

TO crusinred - Hurricane Adrain has already been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and will probably dissipate even more as it crosses Central America. The projected path of the remnants will be more than 1,000 miles from Nevis. There's no need to worry, that storm won't have any affect on your Nevis plans.

Sorry Andy its kind of fun to give live updates being down here.

Cruisinred, yes dont worry about the weather, its been fantastic the past couple of days. Adrian is way far away - something I wanted to mention since you come in on Sat. that I just found out - FS will be closed to the public starting on Sun. they normally close around 5pm when they do this. A group has rented the whole place - anyway - if you want to go there for anything do it before then as I think its closed until the following Sunday. The 2 shops there are the best on the island if you need to bring anything home or need any clothes anything like that. or stop over if you just want to see the resort - maybe have lunch on Sunday. (have montpelier call first just to make sure I am correct about the time)

Again, have fun - also , Gallipot has wonderful curry chicken (yellow curry, Bananas curry is green curry) they are open Thurs, Fri, Sat night and Sunday lunch (prime rib) It is very good, right near where Bananas is. We are actually going there for dinner tonight.

I am totally jealous!! Send a big wave over to everyone in St. Kitts for me. (I'm a Kittian)

Miss June's is another great restaurant in Nevis.

Are you going over to St. Kitts at all?

Look forward to your trip report when your return.

An excellent forum on SKN is www.islandimage.com

I need advice Please! I cannot decide between FS Nevis or Maui Island? If we chose Maui, we are thinking of Ritz or kea Lani. We want peace, beautiful grounds, nice beach, good food/service and I'm a sucker for the plam trees/coconut tress. which island do you think we should visit? Thank you

I think someone gave advice about this earlier - I would say Nevis. The FS is a beautiful property. The palm trees are huge! It is very quiet and peaceful there. It is a wonderful resort. I am actually headed back there in about an hour to go to the gift shop one last time before its closed to the public for a week (I am staying in a villa on Nevis)

MIMO4,

Thank you! Is there a walking trail at the FS resort? I love good seafood, where would you recommend for a good seafood. My husband doesn't want to drive so we will have to take a taxi. Do you know what is an average roundtrip cost to the restaurant? Is the beach water at the FS calm and clear? Do they have beach lounge chair that has cover to avoid the direct sun on the beach? We are going from Sept 23 to 30th. Do we need to bring bug spray?

since you know so much about Nevis, would you recommend for us to stay at FS or Monpelier? Montpelier is not on the beach but wondering the service and the grounds are prettier at Mont compare to FS? I guess FS beach is nicer than Montpelier private beach. Thank you so much.

To clear - There are walking paths at the Four Seasons which are basically the cart paths along the golf course. They wind through some very interesting terraine and when you get higher up, the views of the Caribbean and neighboring St. Kitts are truly spectacular. On clear days you can see St. Eustasia and Saba. If you are very energetic you can hike from the edge of the Four Seasons' property up into the rain forest which starts is about a 1/2 mile above the Four Seasons Resort (the resort - which ever one you decide to stay at will arrange for a guided tour if you want).

For good seafood try Seafood Madness which is located on the main island roads about a 1/2 mile or so south of the Four Seasons or the Double Douce Beach Bar at the end of Pinney's Beach (it's across the street from Seafood) Madness. Another good place for seafood is Gallipot which is about 2 or 3 miles north of Four Seasons. We always drive (I have a home on the island) so I can't give you specifics on taxi fares but generally speaking you can figure about $5US to $8US one way from 4S to Seafood Madness/Double Douce and $8US to $10US from FS to Gallipot.

The water at Four Seasons is clear but because of the darker colored sand and the quickening depth of the water it will lack the light tourquoise hue that you see on coral based islands. Instead it has a darker blue tint.

There's plenty of shaded areas at the Four Seasons beach and they will provide their guests with umbrellas and/or lounge covers for added shade.

I've never had a problem with bugs on Nevis but then again that's me. Although the breezes tend to keep the bugs in check some people's body chemistry makes them mosquito magenets so it wouldn't hurt to bring bug spray with you if you fall into that category (although it's readily available on the island).

As for staying at Montpelier or Four Seasons that really is a personal choice. Montpelier is a small (about 12 to 15 rooms) vs. 4S with 200+ rooms so it is unfair to make a comparison. Think of Montpelier as an outstanding Bed & Breakfast location (very nicely appointed rooms, great food, quiet mountain side location, excellent personalized service while 4S is a full service Resort with all the amenities (spa, golf, tennis, watersports, 3 restaurants, 2 pools, shops, extensive manicured grounds, lots of staff to cater to your needs, etc.) Pick the type of place that best suits your particular style. You won't be disappointed at either place as they are perhaps the two top places on the island.

Sunnyboy,

Many thanks. I guess, Sept 23 to 30 shouldn't be crowded at FS (with too many kids)?

Clear - it really does depend on what you want. Is being on the beach a huge priority? FS has about 196 rooms, but it does not seem huge like some other resorts, its very lush and green. I went to FS twice for lunch this week and there were quite a few people there, where as Montpelier there were only 4 others eating. The FS has tons of amenities, spa, golf, tennis, water sports, etc. And all of the rooms have AC. Not all the rooms at Montpelier have AC, you would have to request one. FS has cable TV, etc.

FS is new and modern, Montpelier is built on an old plantation.

I think the best of both worlds and a better choice is Nisbet Plantation. The beach is right there (its not a great swimming beach, but its very nice to sit) and Nisbet has lots of amenities. No TVs there.

I guess its a matter of what type of vacation you want and how many on-site amenities, etc you need. I do not need a TV or AC on my vacation, but some do, for example. I am just happy with a book and a pool or the beach.

Hope that helps!
