i understand the food and atmosphere are great at this restaurant but what about the "news" that they blast loud music during dinner?

I'd say that the atmosphere is great, especially if you can get a table close to the water. The food, while good, isn't quite as good as one might expect at the price. I've had two meals there, and yes, the played music, but I wouldn't call it loud. It was island-y, like Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, and calypso, whereas I might have enjoyed a different type, but it wasn't obtrusive. My most recent visit was November 2004.

Assuming you are asking about Coconut Grove restaurant on Nevis, the atmosphere and setting is very nice and the food while good to very good, it is a bit inconsistant. I've eaten there 4 times and the first was a disappointment (I chalk this up to "new restaurant" growing pains since it was shortly after they opened), the second was very good, the third times was just OK and the fourth times our meal was above average. Like the meals service is a bit sporadic. Prices are on the high side, especially given the lack of consistancy.

Getting back to your original question, on two occasions the music was quite loud and we had to ask Gary (the owner) to lower the volumn which he gladly did. I think the initial volumn is determined by who first turns on the CD player. If it's Gary or his wife it will be set at a reasonable level. If it is set by one of the local staff it will be higher than needed for the type of dining they offer.

By the way, I think ejcrowe may have meant her most recent visit may have been in November 2005 not 2004 as the restaurant didn't open until June 2005.

Well, you got me there, Sunnyboy. I was assuming the poster was inquiring about Coconut Grove on Antigua. I've read about the new restaurant on Nevis from both you and MIM, but it wasn't there in my last trip to Nevis in 2004. I look forward to trying it the next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

That's why it is so important to name the island in the title to the post or at the very least in the body of the post. So many restaurants, villas, resorts, etc. have names that are common throughout the Caribbean 9or the world for that matter).
