I have seen several postings on this at www.negril.com. Mostly they say that if you get through it is very expensive. There are other options- rent a cell phone there or use a calling card bought there (not here). Try checking the message board there to see what others have done.

I'm from NJ with Verizon service...my phone did not work in MoBay.
You can either get a GSM phone (not Tri-mode as used in the US) from Verizon for the trip, or you can rent one once you get to Jamaica. Not sure what the rates are though.

Last time we were there the Digicel store in Kingston said they no longer rent cell phones. However, we bought 2 low end models with J$1000 cards for about US$50 each. Still have the phiones for next trip. They are relatively inexpensive for a quick call home or for local calling on the island.
