cayman questions?
We are heading for our first visit to Grand Cayman in two weeks, and have seen lots of good advice previously posted in this forum.
We have two questions, one regarding purchase of alcohol. Is it reasonable there or should we bring our own? We were hoping it is a duty free there then we won't carry it.
Also, what is the dress code for the nicest restaurants? We would like to try a couple and don't want to be too casual.
Thanks for your help!

Norma,
Alcohol costs a bit more down there and most people bring in the 1 liter per person limit. It's up to you if you would prefer to spend a little more instead of packing it. I think you can only get it duty free when you go to leave, but I'm not positive on that.
As far as dress code for a really nice restaurant, a nice sundress and slacks and short sleeve shirt would be appropriate for anywhere! I've seen people decked out, and people in shorts at very nice places like Grand Old House.

Any alcoholic drink you get in a restaurant/hotel is going to be upwards from $10. Wine and Beer are alittle less expensive maybe by a dollar. I would suggest buying it down there.
The reason I dont suggest bringing it from home is just because its heavy. I lugged 3 huge bottles home from the duty free shop at the airport and after the nightmare trip home I almost dumped the bottles in Atlanta. I am not sure if the duty free shops on 7MB carry alcohol. I do know you cant get to teh one at the airport unless your checked in to depart.
I also ageee with Sandy in her dress code advice. We always wore sundress and sandals everywhere. Nice shorts are fine too. We ate every meal outside so that lends to a more casual feel but we didnt want to look like slobs.
Have a great time

I agree with the advise given in the above post as far as the booze goes. We found it to be VERY easy to simply put 1 liter each in our carry-ons.
As far as dress codes go, again I agree with the above posters except the part about the slacks. I brought 3 pairs of nice pants, and never once put them on. We dined at several of the upscale restaurants, and always asked when making reservations if shorts were okay, and every place said "yes". I think a golf shirt, and decent shorts are all that is needed for the guys, and of course the sun dress seemed to be very popular for the ladies.
