Caribbean with kids?
Sorry if this has been posted already, I didn't see much. I'm looking for suggestions for a nice beach trip in the winter for a week with a two year old. Islands in general? Specific resorts? We'll mostly hang out at the hotel and go to the beach. You can also let me know any specific places that are not kid friendly. We live in Boston and don't want any longer of a plane ride than need be so northern Caribbean would probably be good. Thanks!

I just got back from Nevis with my 7 month old daughter, of course she cannot do any of the activites anywhere, but the FS is a great place for kids, they have a kids club and they have a save the turtle program which the kids can be a part of. It looks really neat. Not sure how old your kids are though. I have a friend in Boston and I was looking into airfare for him you can fly Boston to San Juan and then San Juan to Nevis - so just 2 flights, the second flight is only about an hour, on American.

Aruba is great and warm in the winter! You can fly direct from Boston. I am not sure how long the flight is, but I imagine about 5 and a half hours. There are some nice resorts Marriott, Hyatt and Radisson. Marriott has time shares that are brand new there and you can probably rent one of those which might be more convenient with a little one.
Northern Caribbean is not very warm in the winter. I think the water may be to cold to swim in the Turks and Caicos. You can probably fly direct to Puerto Rico. There are a number of resorts that are kid friendly-Hyatt has one that is away from the city. That would be a shorter flight.

With a two year old I would suggest either an AI (if you like AIs), or, if you want to be a little more independent, a condo-resort.
Cayman is very popular with families and Cayman Airways runs non-stop service from Boston in the winter.
Cayman is also very well known for condo-resorts... gives you more room than a hotel room and also lets you prepare food in your kitchen for those cantankerous toddlers !
See www.caymanislands.ky and www.caymanairways.com for more information.
Also, if you are looking to book a package, Vacation Outlet (locations in all Filene's Basement stores) are the Boston area specialist on Cayman.
Hope that helps.
BTW, I LOVE Boston, one of my favourite getaway cities.. if only Cayman Airways flew there in the summer/fall, I'd love to jet up for the weekend (although I should note that AA and DL also have excellent connecting service)

We spent 10 days in March in a villa at Silver Sands in Jamaica. Our party included my almost-3-year-old and 8 month-old grandsons. We had a wonderful (and reasonably priced)time. SS is a gated community of privately owned villas with a lovely beach with lifeguard. The water was beautiful. Our villa also had a private pool, which was fenced, making it safe for the kids. All of the villas come with a full staff, and the rent includes roundtrip transportation from the airport. Check out their website at www.silver-sands.com.
