personally i've never been to either of the specific places you've listed. but greece was one of the worst places i've ever visited and i've been all around the world. crete was definitely the highlight, but that isn't saying much... people there are rude, purposefully go out of their way to make your life miserable and make you miss boats, etc. and i traveled with a greek woman too! it was horrible. i would never ever go back there, nor would i ever recommend it to any friends. THe caribbean, on the other hand, has been a wonderful destination in every regard. If you have your heart set on the Mediterranean...I'd go to Turkey over Greece ANY DAY. It's more beautiful, less touristy, and the people and food are WONDERFUL. hope this helps. h

yes hillary I am sure the people of Greece have nothing better to do but to purposefully make life miserable for tourists - how long have you had these persecution delusions?

That's o.k. Hillary Greece and the people that visit this beautiful country are thanking you not to return.
I have been to Crete and St. Barts and it all depends on what you're looking for.
You don't say when you are visiting and what type of vacation you intend on having?

Try posting on the Europe discussion board. There are many people that will answer if you don't get many responses in Caribbean

Hi, tried Europe but no info. We will be going in July, a romantic trip for two, similar to our visit last year to Le Toiny. Kick back, water sports, exquisite setting, food and service...your experiences shared greatly appreciated. It seems people who have been to the Caribben are generally very widely travelled, more so than Europe or Hawaii. Thanks!

Terry,
Crete is a huge island and even though Elounda is a great hotel, it is not a particularly romantic hotel.
It starts to become high season in late June in Greece so getting around may be more difficult than St. Barts. You don't say how long you want to stay and from where you're traveling from?
I travel to Greece every summer and would choose Santorini or Corfu instead of Crete. Crete is beautiful and the Cretans are very hospitable people but spending your entire trip there is not a good idea especially when Greece has so many ideal islands for romance and beaches.
If you want all water sports and a total beach experience, go to St. Barts. Greece will be crowded and St. Barts will be much more quiet and romantic that time of year.
Hilary, I feel sorry for you that you had a horrible time. I wonder why so many celebrities and well-traveled people return to Greece quite often?
I love Greece and have visited many islands. Have been to Crete in July but to Stalis. It is VERY hot then! Looking at your criteria I would suggest that the Caribbean has more of what you want. However I'd like to suggest that you look at Santorini or Rhodes ( Rhodes Town or the beautiful village of Lindos- there are some good hotels just outside of Lindos)Let us know what you decide!
