Check out ROCKHOUSE in Negril, Jamaica. I think it would be perfect for you. The restaurant/hotel has individual cliffside cottages scattered around its seaside property, each one with a ladder down to the sea. Sunsets are breathtaking.
ROCKHOUSE also has a very good restaurant ( and a pool, I think). It's on Negrils' West End, an area that is full of restaurants and funky bars, about a 10-15 minute drive to Negrils' incredible six-mile long white sand beach.
The beach in Negril IS very touristy, but it also has some amazing bars that offer great music into the early morning hours.
Flight time from JFK-Montego Bay is just under 4 hours. Then you'd need to take a transfer ( can do group, but I recommend private so you're not stopping along the way) to Negril, which takes about 1.5 hours. The drive from Mobay goes through some interesting market towns, then pineapple plantations, and finally along the water. It's a very cool ride, which we don't usually mind at all.
Could be a wonderful trip for 4-5 days.
