This request is for a friend..can any of you recommend some really good coffees from the islands? Any suggestions from the Dominican Republic or Costa Rica would eb greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee is excellent, but also very hard to find in the US. (Apparently Japan has cornered the market outside of Jamaica.) A local gourmet coffee shop in my town suggested some Haitian fair-trade coffee as a less costly alternative. Even so, it was pretty pricey but it was great.

Wallenford and Old Tavern Estate are the very best coffee beans in Jamaica, better than Blue Mountain coffee by far.
Google Old Tavern to order direct from Dorothy and Alex at the plantation:their peaberry and French-roast aged in oak barrel beans are amazing, better than anything from the DR or Costa Rica.

Yes! I got hooked on the coffee in Jamaica. When I got back to the States, I had a very hard time finding Jamaican coffee.

Then, when were in the Dominican Republic, we asked a local lady to recommend the best DR coffee to us. She suggested Cafe Molido. I am now hooked on Cafe Molido, and like it the best of any coffee I've tried. I have now found an Ebay seller who has it sometimes.

I drink my coffee black, and like a deep, rich hearty coffee but not harsh. The Cafe Molido is wonderful.

When we are on our annual trip to the D.R. we go to the supermarket and stop up I think it's Santo Domingo coffee beans..we bring back 20 pounds.. and we don't even drink coffee..it's as gifts. My coffee maven son says some of the coffee in BJ's is better than Blue Mountain...and besides it's hard to find as they said.. Japan buys the best beans

Well my favourite coffees to bring back from the Caribbean are Cubita, Serrano and Turquino, all three from Cuba.

The Cubita is a "Tueste Oscuro" (Dark Roast) grown in Cuba's Eastern mountains.

Serrano is a 100% Arabica bean.

Turquino is also a 100% Arabica bean grown in the Sierra Maestra mountains and is, IMHO Cuba's best coffee.

tiv, that just shows how little I know. I thought that any coffee grown in the Blue Mountains would be called Blue Mountain coffee, but with different names, kinda like various kinds of French wines. Thanks for the clarification.

I second the recommendation of Old Tavern Blue Mountain coffee... the peaberry in particular is outstanding.

Visited them when I was at Strawberry Hill this year.... also highly recommended !

Oh, and they will ship the beans the US for you, no problem (but not cheap
