Carambola or Buccaneer?

We are planning a trip to St. Croix in Feb. and can't decide between these 2 properties. Is golf better one than the other? Is Buc. so much closer to town that it is more convenient to go out at night? Is one known to have more kids than the other?
Thanks for any input!

Most of my aquaintances that golfed seemed to prefer the Buccaneer. (I lived on STX from 89 to 94)Buccaneer is closer to Christiansted. Carambola is near Fredericksted. If my memory serves me correctly, the Buc has some kids programs and Carambola doesnt. (could have changed in the last few years though) Therefore, one would think that there would be more kids at the Buc. The Buc has a better water sports program, better beach for swimming too. Its reef protected where as Carambola isnt. The part of the island where Carambola sits is much lusher. The east end where the Buccaneer is located is much more arid. The Buc is family owned (the Armstrongs) and operated, Carambola isnt. I think its a Radison resort? If you have any other questions feel free to e mail me.

Golfed at all three courses in May. The Carambola course is a Robert Trent Jones course and I believe it a bit more difficult and better regarded seems to me they played a women's professional event there in the past. The par 3's are considered among the best in the islands. The Buccaneer course is still a very good course and is right on the water making for some stunning scenery on a few of the holes. You really cannot go wrong at either place and I would recommend you playing at both. The buccaneer is considerably closer to town than Carambola. The Buccaneer does market more to families.
I was told it does get busy in the winter so I would enquire as to tee times well before departure.

I lived on St. Croix in 95' and 96' and I thought that Carambola was unquestionably the nicest resort on STX. If you are looking for lush, tropical paradise, then I believe that this place is tops. The pool area and the little cabins are so nice. The golf course is also nicer than the one at the Buccaneer. We used to drive all the way out there every time that we could. There is GREAT scuba right off of the beach at Carambola, too. There is this trench, and you can do a georgous wall dive. Try to find the 3 anchors. The Bucaneer is much closer to C'sted which is a huge plus if you want to go out every night. Carambola is probably 30 mins (can't really remember) down windy windy roads to C'sted and it's not really that close to fredricksted either becasue you have to cross the mountains and rainforest. Fredricksted is more tuned to the cruise ship people anyway - not too many bars and not too many overnight guests. And drinks are pretty pricey (but tasty) at Carambola.

We were at Carambola in 97, this is a beautiful resort. The rooms have fresh flowers, big king beds, lots of open air.
the staff are great here tending to your every need.
