Cap Juluca vs. Frangipani
(Oops, didn't post under Anguilla.) Is there any comparison? At Cap Juluca we can only afford the Luxury Room vs. the 1 bedroom suite at Frangipani. Do the other amenities at Cap Juluca outweigh this? How do the beaches compare? How much more windy is it on the Caribbean side?

There is no place like Cap Juluca. The luxury room is very very nice. If you look at their brochure a luxury room is clearly labeled. How can you compare. Frangipani is not in the same class as Cap Juluca, hey its a lovely hotel. I have not seen their rooms, but a few years ago we met some ad executives, who were at Frangipani, said there is nothing like Cap Juluca. We enjoy the cooling trade winds on Maundays Bay and have never had a problem. Go with Cap-you will not be disappointed it is a very unique hotel.

Penny,
Glad to hear it. Do you have any idea whether the construction which some were complaining about is finally finished? Also, some friends suggested that the storms may have destroyed the reef on that beach. Any idea whether that is the case?
Is Cap Juluca your favorite hotel in the Caribbean? We've been reading a lot of this mail, and you seem like an unusually ardent fan. You're not a hotel manager in disguise are you??

I believe the construction is all is all done. The jetties on other side of the beach are fine. Reef- maybe way out in the bay. Snorkeling has never been great at this beach. No I have nothing to do with Cap Juluca except, as a very pleased guest. It is one of our favorite hotels because it is unigue and the island of Anguilla is a special place. It now feels like home. We do travel to the caribbean at least twice a year, and have done so since 1992. Is it the best resort in the caribbean? It is for us, but we have not done all the islands. We look for low key, we enjoy different restaurants, great beaches are a must. We have enjoyed Little Dix Bay, Caneel Bay, Jumby Bay, Barbados, Bermuda, these are our favorites. We have been to St. Lucia, and Tortola and were disappointed in the beaches. Our wish list is to try St. Barths, PSV and the Turks and Caicos. Now all we need is the time.

Thanks Penny. We just booked at Cap Juluca! We're excited. One place we really loved, fyi, not on your list: Mustique. A wonderful small romantic island, with terrific beaches and a great atmosphere. Really low-key. I think almost better to be in villa there than at cotton house though.
Re Juluca--and I seem to remember you answering this before--is there anything special you would ask for in the rooms? We'll either be in lusury or jr suite--whichever is avail. Do all the rooms have a view of the water, for example? Do they all have a terrace or patio? Is there a part of the complex or a room you would suggest? OR warn us away from? And thanks again.

All the luxury and junior suites on the 2nd floor have great views of the water and St.Martin at Cap Juluca. The lower rooms have a limited view, but we like these for easy beach access. We prefer villa 3 or 4 when we stay at the east end, and 9 or 10 at the West end. The only villas I would not want would be in are located on either side "Georges". All the rooms have large patios and terraces. I also would recommend the sunset cruise on Friday night. It lets you see part of the island from the water and it is fun. One of these days if we can tear ourselves away from Anguilla, we will get to our wish list. Yes Mustique is on there too. I had researched it a year ago-wow some of those villas look great, so does the Cotton House. I ahould add Barbuda to the list too! You will not be disappoined in Anguilla.

Hi Allison-We enjoyed Barbados when we went in March 1992. We stayed at a very small resort called Treasure Beach. It was very nice, the rooms are all suites, lovely restaurant and pool. The hotel is horseshoe shaped so most rooms do not have water views, even though they are directly on the beach. If we go (I should say when) I would like to try another hotel. We were very pleased with Treasure Beach. The ones that interest me are Royal Pavillion, Cobblers Cove, Coral Reef and The SandPiper(www.scubamom.com has info) When the newly rebuilt Sandy Lane finally opens it should be very interesting-they are on a great spot on the beach. The restaurants and beach bars are wonderful in Barbados and there is a lot to see and do. some info The best sunsets too!
Its snowing today and my thoughts are always at the beach.

LOL! A snowy day here too ... and this is our usual time to be in the Islands so I enjoyed the chuckle when I read Penny's post - we are definately on the same path!!! We overnited it at Cobbler's Cove on the way home from the Grenadines and since they had a buffet that nite, ate at Treasure Beach. Great kitchen!! Loved Cobbler's Cove's rooms that had louvers opening up across the entire front of the spacious comfortable units. Some garden view (beautiful gardens) and some had an ocean view! Not much beach there tho! but a wonderful property!! Royal Pavillion had no room for us and Sandy Lane was not reopened - both looked lucious!! I know a lot of people say Barbados is "not for them" but I think I would like to return just to check it all out further.

Hi Julie!
Just wanted to add my sentiments on your comparison between Cap Juluca and Frangipani.
It was through careful reading of these very posts, and understanding what differences travelers use to make this decision, that I finally made a long awaited decision on which island/resort would fit this "30 something city-stressed couple in dire need of R&R away from civiilization"
After researching from which island, to which hotel/resort would suit us, we came to the conclusion that Cap Juluca, with all its Travel Awards: (on the Conde Nast Traveler's Gold List 2000, Travel and Leisure magazine polls, most travel guidebooks, etc) is the place for us -- even after comparing Bali and islands in French Polynesia couldn't compare with easy access from US........
Go ahead and book your holiday -- it's filling up every day; less and less rooms are available, even the Luxury rooms. Enjoy and have fun!
See you there in........paradise...
