Caneel Bay question
We are going to Caneel Bay on Saturday and have reservations for an ocean view room. Are there any particular parts of the resort that are better than others? (Beautiful view and solitude are desired.) Is the resort typically responsive to location preferences?

Caneel can fax you a map of the resort with the different room types identified. Some of the rooms in the ocneaview category have much better locations than others.

Personally, I thought the best oceanviews were the ones between Paradise and Caneel beaches, or the ones next to the Turtle Bay restaurant (but noise may be an issue with those).

Caneel honored our room request and the resort was almost full when we went. Fax them ahead of time.

Thanks for the reply. I've already got a faxed copy of the resort, but the type is so small that most is illegible! Anyway, I figure it's impossible to judge the setting from just a map, and there seem to be a lot of posters who have been there. It appears from the map that some units are isolated in two's, while other parts of the complex have larger buildings or clusters of rooms. Any opinions about the relative pros and cons of those?

Hi Scott:I have been to Caneel in their premium rooms so I am not sure of which rooms are ocean view. I would probably go with Turtle Bay-or the smaller cluster of rooms. If I find my map I will get back to you.
You might try posting this question on the caribbean forum-Lynda is in St. John and maybe she can find out for you.
The whole resort is beautiful-we prefer to be away from the main dining area, and beach activity of Caneel Beach.

Scott if the ocean views are located in the point-(Not sure if Dana Point)go with that. The rooms are on a bluff over looking Caneel beach and Paradise.
I would stay away from the 2-3 story large building cluster.
Also Turtle Bay would be a better choice than the large cluster.
Hope this helps-I cannot image the Turtle Bay dining area being a problem. It is not opened every night and that is a quiet area, look int the point.
