Cancun-Where To Stay?
Going to Cancun in May. Need info comparison on 3 hotels. Intercontinental-Presidente/Fiesta Americana Cancun/Continental Villas Plaza.
I seek opinions on these hotels only. If you have visited recently I welcome your comments regarding costs, service, things to watch for, and what to watch out for!
Gracias,
Tony

I stayed at Continental Villas. I was in the main hotel and liked it very much. The room was clean, spacious, and quiet. You walked in and the bed, dresser night stand and bathroom were on one level. Step down two steps where there was a tv, sofa, coffee table and sitting area. Off that was the balcony. I ate at two restaurants on the property and had good service, and great food. Don't be put off because one is Tony Romas. It does not have the standard fare of only ribs and chicken. The buffet breakfast is wonderful and only $7.95 with everything you could possibly want. The beach on the property is very long and has several shelters which come in handy from the mid day sun. I liked the main pool area, however one portion is very shallow and guests placed their chairs in the pool and it prevented others to enjoy the water. I also have stayed at the Westin and thought it beautiful.

A few years ago I stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa. I'm not sure if this was the same as the Fiesta Americana Cancu. I will say the Condesa was outrageous! Hotel was beautiful, pool was beautiful with a swim up pool bar. Rooms were clean, service was great!

My family was in Cancun at Christmas this past year. It was wonderful. The best way to get around is by bus, for only a few pesos you can go any where. If you wish to take a taxi, be sure to negotiate the fare up front so that both you and the driver know the price. Also be aware that the driver's occasionally charge extra for air conditioning in the taxi. Most of the major hotels have a water filtration system, so we have never gotten sick. Having said that though, I recommend that you drink a fair amount of bottled water because the water supply, even though filtrated, is very heavy with minerals. There are many great places to eat. If you never have been there before you may be struck by how clean and neat it is in the hotel zone. We have a condo at the Westin Regina and enjoy Cancun very much. Happy vacation!

Zip! Kerry is right!! The Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun is the place to stay!! We stayed there in December 1996 for 5 days. Absolute Glorious!!!! The best holiday we ever had. The hotel is absolutely stunning and the personnel so friendly. Our room was cleaned more than once a day. The hotel has 3 "towers" which feature a main atrium, lush tropical foilage, cascading waterfalls and a huge swimming pool wtih a wooden hanging bride over it. Our room had an ocean view (overlooking the pool-area) - absolutely stunning!! The Splash Bar is in the pool with a restaurant adjoined to it with the beach a few meters away. The hotel's garden is beautiful with cocunut trees all over the place. The path to the bus stop is well lit at night. A 5-min walk away from the hotel (turn right when you get to the main road) is a shop (the name escapes me now) where one can purchase/rent diving gear and go on diving excursions or get onto the "Cancun Queen" for a sunset cruise on the lagoon. It is also a nice 30 min walk to the centre of town. Also visit the Kulkulcan Plaza (on your way to town). Have lunch at "100%25 Natural" and breakfast at "OK Maguey" (next to the shop where you buy the diving gear). We also had supper at "Shooters Waterfront Cafe" (to your left from the hotel, near McDonalds). There is also the Fiesta American Coral Beach, which is near the centre of town, but I would definitely recommend that you stay at the Condesa - perfect location!! Don't forget your camera! Enjoy!!

We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun for our honeymoon and it was fabulous. We highly recommend it. The hotel decor was stunning. We also recommend to get the breakfast plan. It was very convenient and had everything you could want. We really liked the following restaurants in Cancun: Morrows Stone Crab, Maria Bonita and Captains Cove. We hope you have a great time because we certainly did.

Has anyone stayed or have info on MOON PALACE, which is located just outside of the Cancun area. I've heard mixed reviews from some , but spoke to one couple who can't say enough about how wonderful and 5 star the resort is. Thinking about going next spring because of the reasonable price-don't want to be on the Cancun strip (want seclusion). Thank you.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency last Dec. - liked the hotel very much except for 1 thing - no beach!
Had to go next door to the Camino Real for the beach and we were not always able to use the lounges there as we were not guest of that hotel. Next time we are staying at the Camino Real.
